Story
Who invented reality television, the world’s most dangerous pop-culture genre? And why can’t we look away? In this revelatory, deeply reported account of the rise of “dirty documentary”—from its contentious roots in radio to the ascent of Donald Trump—Emily Nussbaum unearths the origin story of the genre that ate the world, as told through the lively voices of the people who built it. At once gimlet-eyed and empathetic, Cue the Sun! explores the morally charged, funny, and sometimes tragic consequences of the hunt for something real inside something fake.

Most of the shows covered, I had never seen. I really enjoyed learning more about The Apprentice. It was eye opening that many of the people, who worked on that show thought Trump was a washed up buffoon. They felt responsible for helping is image, that lead to him being elected President.

Emma gave her children the loving care and wisdom they needed to succeed in life, always encouraging them to be true to themselves. When Whoopi lost her mother in 2010—and then her older brother, Clyde, five years later—she felt deeply alone; the only people who truly knew her were gone. Emma raised her children not just to survive, but to thrive. In this intimate and heartfelt memoir, Whoopi shares many of the deeply personal stories of their lives together for the first time.

Story
By August 1968, the American space program was in danger of failing in its two most important objectives: to land a man on the moon by President Kennedy's end-of-decade deadline and to triumph over the Soviets in space. With its back against the wall, NASA made an almost unimaginable leap: It would scrap its usual methodical approach and risk everything on a sudden launch, sending the first men in history to the moon - in just four months.

An Important Story that’s been Lost in History
Reviewed: 02-22-24
Like most Americans I knew about Apollo 1 because of its tragic ending. I knew about Apollo 11 because of the historic walk on the moon. Americans had won the Space Race! I knew about Apollo 13 because of Ron Howard’s movie. I knew nothing about Apollo 8. Of course, I had just turned 13 in December of 1968. My mind was on entering the world of teenagers, not another Apollo mission.
If not for Apollo 8, America might not have been the first to land on the moon. I loved learning all the history behind this mission, as well as, the stories of all the crew members. I really hope this gets made into a limited series someday. Are you listening Tom Hanks?
