Story
Daniel McEvoy has a problem. Well, really, he has several, but for this Irish ex-pat bouncer at a seedy, small-time casino, the fact that his girlfriend was just murdered in the parking lot is uppermost in his mind. That is until lots of people around him start dying, and not of natural causes. Suddenly, Daniel’s got half the New Jersey mob, dirty cops, and his man-crazy upstairs neighbor after him, and he still doesn"t know what"s going on.

Funny and different

Good departure for Colfer. An adult novel, finally. I might listen to the next one too

Story
The Tarot Sequence imagines a modern-day Atlantis off the coast of Massachusetts, governed by powerful Courts based on the traditional Tarot deck. Rune Saint John, last child of the fallen Sun Throne, is backed into a fight of high court magic and political appetites in a desperate bid to protect his ward, Max, from a forced marital alliance with the Hanged Man. Rune"s resistance will take him to the island"s dankest corners, including a red light district made of moored ghost ships and the floor of the ruling Convocation, where a gathering of Arcana will change Rune"s life forever.

I like the premise of the Arcana
Reviewed: 12-05-24
I like that he (the writer) uses the tarot cards as characters and houses in the arcana. Brilliant ideas and little stuff comes back around later. Very humorous too

Story
When Sonya MacTavish inherits the huge Victorian mansion on the coast of Maine, she has no idea that the house is haunted. The footsteps she hears at night, the doors slamming, the music playing, are not figments of her imagination. In her dreams she sees glimpses of the past. In the present she finds portraits of brides. And when she has visions of an antique mirror, she is drawn to it, sensing it holds dark family secrets.

Good story, but needs a male narrator too.

Like the narration, but she can"t voice men. They need a male narrator along with this female one. She"s good at women, but male voices are not her specialty.

Story
Tossed back into the not-so-familiar fairy-tale world of Never After, Filomena Jefferson-Cho and her friends set off on another adventure...this time in search of Cinderella’s glass slipper. Or rather, glass slippers. It turns out the classic story of Cinderella is full of lies - starting with how Cinderella herself is far from the innocent heroine everyone thinks she is. She is manipulative and cunning - willing to do anything to be the princess of Eastphalia. The real heroines of her story are her “wicked” stepsisters, who aren’t actually wicked at all!

Not as good as the first book.
Reviewed: 02-26-22
This book makes many references to the first one, which is far better. This one is not as entertaining, but the performance is very good.
