Story
Unsurpassed wilderness soon to become a battleground. A lone warrior has harnessed the raw, natural power of one of the greatest predators of all time. And the land to which he has kinship will no longer tolerate its desolation and decimation. War has been declared, and a zoological superweapon has been unleashed. As ranchers begin to lose their cattle, their lands, and their lives, a small community reaches out to the only person who can help: Thomas Walker, a hunter turned conservationist. He will soon discover that the creature is more familiar to him than he ever thought possible.

Overall, a decent book would’ve liked a little bit deeper character development. The conversations fell a little bit flat at times.

Story
My name is Kazimir Wolfe. People call me "Kaz", except they don’t. I never use my real name; it’s too dangerous, for me and for anyone I meet. I’m on the run from the law, who think I killed my aunt, and from whoever did kill her, because they want to finish the job. So, I move around a lot, working construction or whatever job I can find. It’s a lonely life. I don’t let anyone get close...people who get close to me end up dead. Why? I’m a wizard. The world’s only wizard, as far as I know.

A world on the precipice of the apocalypse. A secret forged in the flames of war. A chance to start over. For John Sutton, only one of those three things matters. Retired from a decade of brutal war, he wants nothing more than a quiet pastoral life while he does his best to stem the steady increase of his Doom Points before they hit 100, signaling the start of the end. He’s been given a small farm on the outskirts of the empire as thanks for his service, but no matter how far he travels, it's impossible to escape the war's devastating effects on the world.

This book ended really well but it very confusing at the beginning. I love Michael Kramer, and it listens to most of the books he has narrated. I would recommend this book, but not as enthusiastically as others.

WHY
Reviewed: 01-04-23
Center myself a super fan of Brandon Sanderson however, this book seemingly has a target audience of age 12, and under that coupled with the narrator made it feel very, very childish. I love everything else I have ever read or listen to from Brandon Sanderson’s book was very, very disappointing. Sorry to report.

I hate giving negative reviews because I could never write a book like this. However, I need to be fair to myself and judge this on how it was to listen to it. Just so slow, just so slow, just SO SLOW. I don’t understand the need to add so much crap that has very little to do with the skeleton of a story. For that reason it was boring because it became Monotonous

Wow this book is very long and very drawn out at times. I prefer a book that has a faster pace personally some people enjoy reading a story or listening to a story that carries because they enjoy the story I like the story to move and shake and have an end. There were times when I was completely lost and confused as the narrator spoke it was just noise in the background for that reason I gave it the three stars

I could not write a novel like this and have mad respect for people with the talent and time to do so. With that, some things could have been taken out. There are way too many fillers to this story that, for myself, are just a waste of time.
The performance was done WAY over the top with some of the female characters at times and also consistently with the male characters. The narrator would do great with children or young adult books.
