Story
In 2014, Elizabeth and Nate Thames were conventional 9-5 young urban professionals. But the couple had a dream to become modern-day homesteaders in rural Vermont. Determined to retire as early as possible in order to start living each day - as opposed to wishing time away working for the weekends - they enacted a plan to save an enormous amount of money: well over 70 percent of their joint take-home pay. Dubbing themselves the Frugalwoods, Elizabeth began documenting their unconventional frugality and the resulting wholesale lifestyle transformation on their eponymous blog.

It took me a few chapters to get past what felt like the whining of an over privileged millennial, but I’ve heard their podcast and as a huge FIRE fan, I had to hear it. I really enjoyed how she made their true story seem like an entertaining novel. Well done and a nice change from my consumption of personal finance, business books and self development “blah blah blah” books. I’d highly recommend it.

I'm completely fascinated now about the entire FIRE concept/ FI community. I just wish I had heard this and "Set for Life" 20 years ago. Sadly, my kids won't listen to my "self help/motivational" books.
This really is a great book, it makes you really think about why you are working, why and how you spend your money and your life energy....

Story
Most organizations and individuals work in the context of annual goals and plans; a 12-month execution cycle. Instead, The 12 Week Year avoids the pitfalls and low productivity of annualized thinking. This book redefines your "year" to be 12 weeks long. In 12 weeks, there just isn't enough time to get complacent, and urgency increases and intensifies. The 12 Week Year creates focus and clarity on what matters most and a sense of urgency to do it now.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
This was a basic quarterly time management goal/planning . Absolutely nothing new.
The worse part was the narrator had such a hypnotic tone I could barely keep my eyes open. I sometimes listen to guided meditations to help me fall asleep - I actually started listening to this book for that.

After the sudden death of her husband, Sheryl Sandberg felt certain that she and her children would never feel pure joy again. Her friend Adam Grant, a psychologist at Wharton, told her there are concrete steps people can take to recover and rebound from life-shattering experiences. We are not born with a fixed amount of resilience. It is a muscle that everyone can build.

There are some great things in the 6 chapters I've made it through.
I'm just having a hard time listening to her comments on how employers should mandatorily support employees. I think that works if you work for Facebook - but for the countless small entrepreneurs just barely able to keep food on their own table especially after the hardships of divorce and death of spouse.
How can she be so uninformed about the hardships that business women owner deal with? Maybe it's just in California but I do feel like our government has targeted small business, the regulations, employees wages, and mandatory employee benefits and the blatant support for employees who know how to work the "system "
I think it's hard to figure out being the only person after loss and I don't discount anything she is saying. I just think her perspective is screwed by her very privileged live.
