Louis Comfort Tiffany, famous for his stained-glass windows, is planning a unique installation at the Paris World’s Fair, the largest in history. At their fifth-floor studio on Fourth Avenue, the artists of the Women’s Division of the Tiffany Glass Company are already working longer shifts to finish the pieces that Tiffany hopes will prove that he is the world’s finest artist in glass. Known as the “Tiffany Girls,” these women are responsible for much of the design and construction of Tiffany’s extraordinary glassworks, but none receive credit.

I liked the story, the characters, and the era. I have seen a Tiffany exhibition at our local museum. They are magical pieces. Sometimes I tired of the emotional natures of the characters, but really, they just were a mirror. Nice book!

Story
Early in the Great War, men left Britain’s factories in droves to enlist. Struggling to keep up production, arsenals hired women to build the weapons the military urgently needed. “Be the Girl Behind the Man Behind the Gun,” the recruitment posters beckoned. Thousands of women—cooks, maids, shopgirls, and housewives—answered their nation’s call. These “munitionettes” worked grueling shifts often seven days a week, handling TNT and other explosives with little protective gear.

This book would make an interesting movie.
I had never heard of the munitions workers who helped win WWI.
I enjoyed the pace of the book, all the characters, and the historical perspective.
I gave 4/5 stars for the narrator because even though she did an amazing job in Diamond Eye, for example, I would have preferred a British narrator.
