Loved this one!

I understand why folks say this one is their favorites. Once again Anne Perry weaves a story of characters who are challenged to be brave and to dig deep within themselves to reveal their best selves all in an uplifting story line, rich with descriptive prose that draws the reader in. Happy Christmas and thank you Ms. Perry.

Gritty, intense wild ride
Reviewed: 11-24-21
If you are looking for a sweet Christmas story that will give you happy feels this is not the book for you! This one is gritty, intense sometimes a bit disturbing, but a wild, full flavored ride. The performances were spot on, these are rich characters who will draw you in and make you care about them. This is the second in the series I’ve listened to and I was pondering what made them Christmas stories other than the fact that they happen at Christmas time. As I thought about it I decided that it is the powerful way in which some of the characters are transformed. They are put in positions where they must sacrifice some part of themselves for the good of another, In order to accomplish their goal they must give up selfishness, or fear, or their unwillingness to go the extra mile for someone else, while they have no hope of success, and in some cases are placing their life/ lives on the line and yet they dig deep and push on. Like the Holy family on that first Christmas they must suffer for the saving of another. I enjoy this series and plan to listen to many more this season.

Story
The Little Office of Our Lady, also known as the Hours of the Virgin, is a liturgical devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, in imitation of, and usually in addition to, the Divine Office in the Roman Catholic Church. It is a cycle of psalms, hymns, scripture, and other readings that came into general use in the 10th century, and was so well received that eventually by the 14th century the Little Office was obligatory for all clergy. Although no longer an obligatory prayer book, it is still widely used by those who wish to draw closer to Christ and to the Virgin Mary.

This book had me on the edge of my seat from the get go! Have to admit I binged this series in 2 days and now I have to wait for book 4😉 I love the storyline, characters and adventure of these books and Raymond’s narration is the frosting on the cake, He made the characters come alive. Finally a adventure series that kids and adults can love and share. As a former reading teacher and present day homeschooler I recommend these book highly they are filled with moral lessons without being preachy, and they are a fun and compelling read! Please hurry with book 4 Raymond patience is a virtue I struggle with🥰

Story
At one time, Corrie ten Boom would have laughed at the idea that she had a story to tell. For the first 50 years of her life, nothing out of the ordinary ever happened to her. She was a spinster watchmaker living contentedly with her sister and their elderly father in the tiny house over their shop in Haarlem. Their uneventful days, as regulated as their own watches, revolved around their abiding love for one another. But with the Nazi invasion and occupation of Holland, everything changed....

What a powerful, amazing story of perseverance and the love of God and family in the midst of the evil of Hitler’s reign of terror. Even in the most dire circumstances Corrie and her family prove that courage, kindness and trusting in our Good God can transform even a veritable Hell into a place where the soul of a tortured people is uplifted. It would do us well to remember this lesson in the perilous times we live in. Thank you Betsy for knowing that we all needed to be told this story and Corrie for telling it so beautifully.

Patrick Tulls rich reading voice increases the experience.
