Story
Pericles "Perry" Christo is a P.I. with a past. A one-time NYPD homicide cop, Perry has been struggling since he lost his badge, and his marriage, in a notorious corruption scandal. So when wealthy Upper East Side matron Julia Drusilla calls him one cold February night, he jumps at the chance to work what seems to be a straightforward (and lucrative) case. Julia needs Perry to track down the whereabouts of her beautiful yet aimless daughter, Angelina, who is about to become a very wealthy young heiress.

Pacing crawled

While the different styles were intriguing, the amount of time (space? pages?) spent on Perry’s introspection was redundant and tiresome. Kept hoping the action would shift gears before I lost interest. Stuck with it, though, in support of this collaborative concept and the benefitting charitable organization.

Story
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Story
Molly Gray is not like everyone else. She struggles with social skills and misreads the intentions of others. Her gran used to interpret the world for her, codifying it into simple rules that Molly could live by. Since Gran died a few months ago, twenty-five-year-old Molly has been navigating life’s complexities all by herself. No matter—she throws herself with gusto into her work as a hotel maid. Her unique character, along with her obsessive love of cleaning and proper etiquette, make her an ideal fit for the job.

Have patience with the opening and you will be rewarded

The first person recounting of this story encourages the reader/listener to slow down and join Molly in viewing her world from her super polite, well-mannered, no nonsense perspective. I’m ashamed to admit I spent a few minutes trying to label Molly the maid as being on the autism spectrum.
Only to realize my need to label a human’s unique approach to life doesn’t justify the intrusion, rudeness, even snobbery of my initial desire to label and thus explain… to whom? Myself?
As soon as my honest talk with myself concluded, I began to listen to Molly’s voice, agree with her opinions and cheer her on
I believe you can take a similar introspective journey and be rewarded

Spent too much time skipping past repeated minutia
Reviewed: 08-01-22
If you get drawn into stories about people who cannot get out of their own way and find a path forward then this book is for you. I spent too much time skipping ahead trying to find some real action some forward progress. And there was none to be found. Very disappointed

Story
Lo Blacklock, a journalist who writes for a travel magazine, has just been given the assignment of a lifetime: a week on a luxury cruise with only a handful of cabins. The sky is clear, the waters calm, and the veneered, select guests jovial as the exclusive cruise ship, the Aurora, begins her voyage in the picturesque North Sea. At first Lo's stay is nothing but pleasant: The cabins are plush, the dinner parties are sparkling, and the guests are elegant. But as the week wears on, frigid winds whip the deck, and gray skies fall.

introspection overload
Reviewed: 08-11-16
overall a great diversion while on the road. predictably, introspection of our protagonist is bordering on, well, boring.
familiar pattern of our wonderful author and easy to forgive.
Ms. Church continues to deliver an amazing performance
