Story
When two marines and their corpsman reunite after a decade apart, they find themselves caught up in the mystery of their former squad leader’s disappearance. With little more to go on than a handful of disturbing charcoal sketches and the whispers of a local legend, they plunge into the depths of one of America’s last truly wild places. But the trees themselves begin to whisper dark secrets. Secrets of trafficking and violence. Of rotten science and blood. Of something else that lurks in the shadows of the pines—something ancient, savage, and hungry.

A lot of sexual violence against women
Reviewed: 02-07-24
Out of all of these books most of the men were weak or brutal. Most of the women are weak and very victimized. The brave woman was made to be and thought of as overly aggressive.
The reader was good and I would listen to him again. The author I will not read nor recommend.

The story is horrible. Kind of a voodoo tale that isn’t scary at all. I kept waiting for it to get better and nothing. The ONLY thing that was going for it was the performance.

Why is King getting political in this?
Reviewed: 09-13-23
The story line is fine EXCEPT King gets his opinion about politics and Covid all up in this. If you didn’t get your shots then you died if ya got them then you lived. He even talked about which brand of shot some characters got. It has nothing to do with the plot. Just a warning to you.

Story
The long-awaited new novel from Margaret Atwood. The Year of the Flood is a dystopic masterpiece and a testament to her visionary power. The times and species have been changing at a rapid rate, and the social compact is wearing as thin as environmental stability. Adam One, the kindly leader of the God's Gardeners - a religion devoted to the melding of science and religion, as well as the preservation of all plant and animal life - has long predicted a natural disaster that will alter Earth as we know it. Now it has occurred, obliterating most human life.

Story
Lush and deceptively tranquil, with its pristine beaches and blossoming vegetation, the island basks in splendid isolation off the South Carolina coast. Here, where sudden storms unleash the murderous rage of wind and sea, stands the Devereaux mansion, a once-great plantation house now crumbling amid ancient oaks dripping with Spanish moss. Here, Marguerite Devereaux, 50 and childless, has cast off her dreams to care for her aged, demanding mother.

confusing and fast
Reviewed: 09-19-18
I'm sending it back before I finish it and this is why. It's confusing. An example is he leaves a bar stating it's just a 30 min. walk to the police station then the next sentence is I walked out of the courthouse and the police station is right there. What?
The reader is fast. I thought it was my speed. Nope, he just reads fast. The sentences have no pause. Just on and on and on.
Twist and turns have no reason. I tried to get thru this mainly since I've been looking for a good listen. I just can't anymore. It's really bad.
