Story
If it weren’t for Emma Johnson, Caryn Johnson would have never become Whoopi Goldberg. Emma gave her children the loving care and wisdom they needed to succeed in life, always encouraging them to be true to themselves. When Whoopi lost her mother in 2010—and then her older brother, Clyde, five years later—she felt deeply alone; the only people who truly knew her were gone. Emma raised her children not just to survive, but to thrive. In this intimate and heartfelt memoir, Whoopi shares many of the deeply personal stories of their lives together for the first time.

Total Admiration for this Lady!
Reviewed: 07-29-24
You have to give Whoopi credit for all she has overcome in her life. I will re listen to this audio book with my husband as he also admires her. We can all learn from her and her mom the way to treat others, tackle life, and to stand up for what you believe in.

Some interesting parts but way too wordy
Reviewed: 01-03-24
The book had some interesting points but for the most part it was difficult not to have my mind wander onto something else. I kept rewinding it and trying to pay attention but found it happening over and over. The book covers her own journey with exercise and triathlons and then periodically will go to her job and how she helps others. It could have been cut in half length wise.

Story
On January 17, 1913, alone and near starvation, Douglas Mawson, leader of the Australasian Antarctic Expedition, was hauling a sledge to get back to base camp - the dogs were gone. Mawson plunged through a snow bridge, dangling over an abyss by the sledge harness. A line of poetry gave him the will to haul himself back to the surface. On February 8, when he staggered back to base, his features unrecognizable, the first teammate to reach him blurted out, "Which one are you?"

Doesn’t match with what’s showing on audible
Reviewed: 12-21-22
This audio book does not play with what you choose in chapters. The story could have been cut down to half the time as it flipped back to old historical stories of the story subjects making it very hard to follow. My husband was done with it after 2 hours as he said it sounded like blah blah blah. I tried to hang in until the end. I skipped ahead a few times and never did find the part of the story about sole survivor. I finally just stopped listening since the chapters would not take me to the specific chapters in the audible

Story
As one of the music world’s most iconic artists and the cofounder of the organizations ONE and (RED), Bono’s career has been written about extensively. But in Surrender, it’s Bono who picks up the pen, writing for the first time about his remarkable life and those he has shared it with. In his unique voice, Bono takes us from his early days growing up in Dublin, including the sudden loss of his mother when he was fourteen, to U2’s unlikely journey to become one of the world’s most influential rock bands, to his more than twenty years of activism.

We couldn’t finish the audiobook
Reviewed: 11-24-22
I Love Bono and all he has done for others. The audio book is hard to follow first due to quality of sound and the fluctuations in the audio and then 2nd because there is so much detail that is in my mind (and my husbands) rather boring. We got to about 16 hours left and had to stop. Maybe reading the book would be better but it is definitely not an audiobook I can listen to.

Story
Our brains do their best to help us out, but every so often they can be real assholes - having meltdowns, getting addicted to things, or shutting down completely at the worst possible moments. Your brain knows it"s not good to do these things, but it can"t help it sometimes - especially if it"s obsessing about trauma it can"t overcome. That"s where this life-changing book comes in. With humor, patience, science, and lots of good-ole swearing, Dr. Faith explains what"s going on in your skull, and talks you through the process of retraining your brain to respond appropriately....

Why does there have to be cussing in every sentence?
Reviewed: 04-15-22
I listen to a lot of audio books and I am not a prude but this is unbearable. She loses the reader because she feels the need to cus so much. Maybe it is a good book since it has good reviews but it isn’t the type of intellectual audio book that I enjoy. I had to stop before I hit chapter three.

Story
When Conor Knighton set off to explore America"s "best idea", he worried the whole thing could end up being his worst idea. A broken engagement and a broken heart had left him longing for a change of scenery, but the plan he"d cooked up in response had gone a bit overboard in that department: Over the course of a single year, Knighton would visit every national park in the country, from Acadia to Zion.

The book was honestly less about his year adventure and more about the history of each national park. I enjoyed the book and will refer back to it whenever I head off to one of the Parks. He adds humor and some pretty interesting facts about each location.

Disillusioned by the corporate lifestyle, David finds himself unemployed and desperate for change. I really enjoyed this book. At first I had to find the proper speed to listen to him but once I did, the story flowed. He is vulnerable in his story expressing his questions with himself and the trail. You can feel the emotions and almost put yourself in the adventure with them. Another story that just makes me want to get out there and explore!
