Action packed and kept me guessing
Reviewed: 05-08-24
I can’t express how much I enjoyed this trilogy. It builds so read from the beginning. Sometimes I really wonder if spiritual warfare looks something like this so it was right up my alley. The beginning is a little slow but within a few chapters it picks up. And no, it’s not based on HS. He does grow up and that’s where the action is.
It’s clean and full of adventure and surprises!

Story
In The Return of the Gods, Cahn takes the listener on a journey from an ancient parable, the ancient inscriptions in Sumer, Assyria, and Babylonia that become the puzzle pieces behind what is taking place in our world to this day, specifically in America. The mystery involves the gods. Who are they? What are they? And is it possible that these beings, whose origins are from ancient times, are the unseen catalysts of modern culture?

The galaxy is doomed. Monkeys may be clever and too stubborn to give up, but Skippy The Idiot Who Got Played knows the harsh truth: this is a fight he can’t win. The odds are not only stacked against him, he was designed not to win this fight. Maybe he can salvage some faint memory of the civilizations that inhabit the galaxy, but those beings are doomed. Doomed. Including the Merry Band of Pirates.

So much negativity?
Reviewed: 12-14-22
Idk why there’s so much kick back against the finale. I think CA actually left openings for short stories to tie up some loose ends.
This was my first space opera series and there hasn’t been another like it. I’ve listened to the series twice over and every time I realize how many things I missed that added to the story.
This book brought out so many emotions. I laughed, I cried, I got tingly inside. I just cannot imagine how there’s soooo much negativity. Idk what people expected honestly. I thought it was genius. None of the books ever end how you suspect, like I can NEVER guess the conclusion to any of these books which add to the wonder and excitement of them. And of course, the highlight is the Skippy and Joe antics.
I’ll end my diatribe with: Haters gonna hate 🤷🏻♀️

Awesome plot!
Reviewed: 10-09-22
The only downside was that if you don’t typically listen to spy thrillers, it can be a bit confusing and hard to follow, especially since this was listed as romance. However, the plot was brilliant and original and mostly, it was believable. Very believable. I do wish there were more heart stoppers and actual thrillers as well as a little more heat between them. There was a lot more potential but still a good story worth the listen.

So much potential…
Reviewed: 04-10-22
I had serious mixed feelings about this. The actual premise was pretty good. For a steamy romance, I was far more interested in the plot than the romance, probably because it was awkward and rushed. It could have been done much better. I wish it was done better bc I wanted to like it much more. When I saw the next book was longer, it gave me hope that they spent more time on the story and romance. We shall see. I’ll give that one a try hoping it’s done with more care.

I played all those cool video games. I watched all those movies. I even read the books. In most of 'em, the hero shoots the bad guys, drives a sweet car, never gets hungry, and always seems to get laid by the end. Yeah. Whatever. I gotta be straight with you about why I wrote this journal, and it comes down to one thing, the apocalypse kinda sucks. It doesn’t meet my expectations at all.

If you’re looking for high action and drama, this ain’t the one. But it’s full of laughter, some sorrow and a middle aged man who was prepared for the end of the world but forgot to bring someone to share it with.
Dusty is crass but genuine, this was a first person story about the lonely life he’s living told with deep insight told in a conversational way. Great job!

Story
As a doctor, I walk a dangerously delicate balance of being compassionate but not overly invested. The same is true in my personal life - love is a luxury I can’t afford. It isn’t until Dr. Westin Grant breaks down all my walls and offers me a future, I find myself wondering if I’m brave enough to risk my heart. When who I was and who I’ve tried to become collide during my clinical trial, the fate of one patient changes everything.

How can I express how awesome this story was? The only thing that got me was how perfect the hero was. Other than that, it was a mature romance and I don’t mean that in an old lady way. I mean, it was realistic and separated the whimsical hard and fast young love from the trial and error, go through hard times and come out stronger love. I’ve experienced both in my life and could fully get into this story.
There wasn’t much laughter in this one which I would have appreciated but it certainly brought out other emotions possibly too strong for a woman in her third trimester because I bawled like a baby through more than one scene.
And the narrator… just wow! She was incredible! Full of appropriate emotion, not whiny or overly dramatic and she did great male voices. There was really nothing about this story or performance I didn’t like.
My favorite thing about this story was seeing a woman so determined to protect herself that she pushed everyone away, completely crack down to her rawest form. She had a full and complete transformation in a very realistic way. Even if you are nothing like her, you can see the humanity in who she was and the hardships that led her to who she became. It’s sometimes hard to reflect this in romance novels without drowning out the romance.
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Bravo!

Story
Aislinn Hennessy pens tales of courage, loyalty, and true love, but her heroes of old are pure fantasy - figments of her imagination. She long ago gave up thinking a knight in shining armor would sweep her off her feet, but then, she never expected to run him off the road, either. Sir Dougray Fitzpatrick has buried one wife and vows to never love again, but destiny has other plans for this 16th-century Irish lord.

The thing with time travel stories
Reviewed: 07-03-21
So, there’s a reason I haven’t liked many time travel romances I’ve read, Diana Gabaldon being the exception, is that these women go back in time, knowing how women were treated and what was expected of them in history and still act completely silly and defiant. There are ways to show the woman’s strength without making her stand out ridiculously and putting her in utter danger.
In this particular story, the heroine had time to understand her situation before she was in any real danger. Even the hero knew her plight and was super understanding, yet she paraded around like a man, making demands that were not acceptable for the time and did everything in her power to completely stress out everyone she came in contact with.
With all that said, the story overall came together, but it took a lot of trauma for the heroine to get her shit together and stop acting like a selfish child. When the hero was stuck in our time, he tried to fit in. But she could not. Ugh.
Good story, annoying heroine and the narrator ended everything in a question which is slightly annoying. But overall, it was a good story.

The ancient land of Eirinn is mired in war. Ciara, princess of Mide, has never known a time when Eirinn's kingdoms were not battling for power or Northmen were not plundering their shores. But lately a mysterious crow has been appearing to Ciara, whispering warnings of an even darker threat. Although her clansmen dismiss her visions as pagan nonsense, Ciara fears this coming evil will destroy not just Eirinn but the entire world.

Awesome Fantasy
Reviewed: 06-15-21
I’m more of a sexy romance fan generally, but sometimes I enjoy a good fantasy. Wow, this book didn’t need any sex with all the passion and heartache (besides, I’m not a huge fan of teenage sex scenes). It was so good and hard to stop listening. I found myself having a difficult time multitasking while listening because I kept getting swept up into the story and solely focusing on it. It made me smile and even cry. It was full of strength and courage and love and it was just awesome all around.
It starts a little slow which is why it was in my library for 6 months but trust me, it gets good fast and stays high paced for nearly the entire book.
Do yourself a favor and listen to it!
