Intriguing, Engaging, AND BEST NARATORS EVER

this book gave me anxiety.
Reviewed: 05-06-24
The narrator(s) were excellent. Main characters, the 2 women, were very unlikable & annoying. So self absorbed. I usually love a good flawed, but well meaning character, but couldn't get bad taste out my mouth about these 2. Understand why this book was free. Was left feeling anxiety about the conclusion...felt unfinished.

I read the Firekeepers Daughter last month and LOVED it - so when I saw this book available - I couldn't wait to read it! They are classified as young adult books, but I'm 48, and loved them. A little mystery, good characters, and the narrator was amazing bringing the characters to life. I loved the mix of fiction, locations I've been to, and native American history.

Beautifully written and narrated! I could picture each person as the story was told and felt deeply for what they each were going through. The truth about how indigenous tribes/communities is unfathomable, and touched on throughout the novel....as well as the enduring connection to nature & each other. I'm so glad I listened to this YA novel.

Complex characters, well written
Reviewed: 07-01-21
Not the type of book I usually read, but I know the driftless region well, born & raised in WI, and wanted to check this author out. It was written with great character development. You really knew the main characters by the end of the novel. I felt it went in too many directions at times, but all the different story lines intersect at various times throughout the book which tied it all together in a way. I'm reading Jewelweed next by this same author.
The narrator was EXCELLENT.

Mix of History & Fiction, but drags a bit
Reviewed: 06-08-21
I love the Seven Sisters series & was so happy to see this one appear in Audible. I love the mix of History with the fictional characters life! I'm addicted & need to see this through to the end to finally know who PA Salt is, but this one dragged a bit for me... the character Mary (also known as Merry?) was not my favorite & I was so annoyed with her by the end of the book. It felt like this book dragged on a bit. I loved how the others were structured. Hope the next book isn't as annoying. But I will anxiously await the next book in the series!

The narrator was excellent! I love Alice Hoffman, great story telling, captivating characters....but I found myself so frustrated & irritated by most of the characters in this book. It felt a bit unfinished as well.... the end didn't circle back to the 2 main female characters. Guess, this wasn't my favorite, but I didn't hate it.
