An interesting continuation of the first two works

The stories were engaging and humorous, well-written in the same sarcastic prose Brokhausen is known for. The narrator was no slouch, but Brokhausen will forever sound like the one from We Few and Whispers in the Tall Grass, which were related with equal smarm and irreverence in a tone that complimented the author's words.

good story, entertaining account

The story was interesting and well told, although the narrator - despite his extensive experience as related at the end of the book - kind of stumbled through some words quite a lot through it but that sort of kept it interesting in itself.

fabulously written work told in masterful fashion

It's not often I enjoy audio books performed by the author but Milburn has three magnificent talents: as a savvy warfighter, as a master storyteller with a clear, pleasant voice that demands rapt attention, and as a mesmerizing writer. I can't remember the last time I read the work of someone so adept at such refreshingly erudite use of the English language without sounding trite or stuffy. He humbly conveys in matter-of-fact fashion his deeds and the successes and failures of those he encountered with equal aplomb, keeping the reader firmly engrossed while sharing his victories along with his shattering personal setbacks. Well done, sir!

This is one of the best novels I have ever read regarding the experience of men, particularly young men, in war. The perspective of the journalists as an observer rather than a combatant - despite living so closely with combatants and being in constant danger and under fire - gives a refreshingly frank and unabashed look into their world. This is highly recommended material and should be mandatory reading for any troops facing time in a war theater.

This is a captivating memoir of a commander's battlefield experience told by someone who knows how to spin a story. The storyline is clear and concise, as is the voice actor's recitation, his goofy character accents notwithstanding. The author is factual yet modest in recounting the exploits of is company. Excellent "read", highly recommended.

In War for the Hell of It, Cobleigh shares his perspectives in a deeply personal account of a fighter pilot's life, one filled with moral ambiguity and military absurdities offset by the undeniable thrill of flying a fighter plane. With well-crafted prose that puts you into his Phantom's cockpit, Cobleigh vividly recounts the unexplainable loss of his wingman, the useless missions he flew, the need to trust his reflexes, eyesight, aggressiveness, and his survival instincts in the heat of combat.

If the author is half as good a pilot as he is an author that he must be one hell of a pilot because this book was completely engaging from start to finish. The author provided just enough "there I was" storyline of combat flying with introspection that does not come off as cliche or scripted. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend it to a friend

Kind of ho hum
Reviewed: 01-21-21
The author's experiences. while worthy of re-telling, seem to be overshadowed by his recounting the experiences of others rather than himself. He goes way overboard with giving the life's story of everyone he mentions, coated with an overabundance of superlatives of their athleticism. joviality, attitude, and war-worthiness. However, he tends to give well-deserved credit to his people and the great job they did under difficult circumstances. Worth your time if you like "staff officer speak".
