Story
Michigan. To tens of thousands of womyn from around the globe, the word meant not a state in the upper Midwest of the U.S., but a state of mind, a state of freedom. A culture, a community, a revolution. The Land. From 1976 to 2015, the Michigan Womyn"s Music Festival was home ground for the lesbian feminist movement. There we strove to embody the principles of matriarchal feminism and bring that wisdom to life in every aspect of the town we created, and the values that guided our lives together.

Women Rule!
Reviewed: 09-05-24
This was a beautiful telling of the birth and history of the Michigan Womyns’ Music Festival, told by the creator, who was the heart and soul of it. Those forty years were years of incredible growth and changes in society and through it all the festival persevered because of the amazing amazons who wanted it and worked for it. The few times I attended were joyous and life affirming, but I had no real grasp on how much work, physically, emotionally, psychically and financially went into it. Thank you LV for all the years and especially for sharing your story so eloquently. We CAN live like this.

Story
You’ve probably never met someone like Clancy. He’s keeping a diary, he’s falling in love, there are rivals for his affections, he lives with his best friend and his worst enemy—even taken together, these factors are maybe not that unusual, except that Clancy is a dog. His point of view is therefore perhaps…different. Told in Cameron’s signature style, a tremendous cast of wonderful characters find themselves jointly and separately navigating the challenges of life, of love, and…other pets, including Clancy"s “worst enemy”—one very disdainful cat.

Funniest Cameron book yet
Reviewed: 01-11-23
Pure love! This is one of Cameron’s funniest books yet. Not only is seeing the world from a dog’s perspective endlessly entertaining, but the characters in this book are a whole other level of hilarity. From the clueless ‘ex’ girlfriend with the Norm McDonald level of malaprops, to the lottery winning dad thinking his cash flow is endless, I giggle snorted through this entire novel. The author narrates the audiobook and is the perfect voice for Clancy the yellow lab. I was so enjoying the book that I purchased the hard cover and turned the pages as Bruce read to me. He has a gift for interesting and realistic characters, and solid, entertaining and plausible story lines. I couldn’t put it down and now am sorry I finished it. I’ve got the oddest craving for bacon……

Story
Former child music prodigy Lily Croft spends most days in her home office crunching numbers and analyzing data as an actuary. Once, she filled concert halls across the world until the pressure got too much and forced her retreat. When her boss hands her a temporary assignment, Lily has to leave the safety of working from home to work with people at an office. She keeps her head down and stays focused, but one night on her way to the train station, she hears music wafting from the Leading Note, and the life and feelings she suppressed for more than a decade bubble up to the surface.

Great story ruined by the narrator
Reviewed: 03-22-19
Oh my GOD! This narrator has the most irritating style I have ever heard. I’m having a hard time listening to her. It’s ruining what is otherwise a terrific story with some unique character situations. Who the heck speaks in the way this narrator is having the characters speak? It’s like she’s doing a bad impression of William Shatner. If she narrates Kris Bryant’s other books, I’ll stick to reading them from now on.

Story
A disastrous office affair has left Channing Hughes unemployed and (very bloody) cynical. What better time to leave Boston for her native England, where her late grandfather has named her sole heir of the Hughes fortune, along with the centuries-old manor house that’s been in the family for generations. Only one problem with that plan - there is no Hughes fortune. If anyone deserves to be cynical about life, it’s Dr. Lark Latimer. She overcame a dysfunctional upbringing in East Boston only to lose both her college sweetheart and a promising medical career when her Ma fell critically ill.

OUTSTANDING!

A thoroughly enjoyable romance by one of the masters (mistresses?) in the field. A bi-continental story of an American on a business trip and a Brit headed home to handle her grandfather"s estate; whose chance encounter on a flight from Logan to Heathrow leads in directions neither expected. This author has a definite gift for creating characters who come to life on the page, with conversations and experiences that feel authentic. All of her secondary characters help form a picture of the main characters, as well, and provide a depth to the story that increases it"s appeal. What made this novel especially engaging was that in addition to the romance, each character had a fully realized secondary story going on, with possible rewards or repercussions completely separate from the expected denouement of the romance. The majority of the story is set in England, near Cambridge to be exact. Channing, the Brit, comes from a well regarded family, with an lovely ancestral manor home and connections to aristocracy, including her best childhood friend. He"s heir to a fortune and as queer as Channing herself. Lark, the American, is an MD employed by a drug company, who is sent to Cambridge to investigate problems with a drug trial. In both of their stories, the attention to detail, clear evidence of the author"s research, provided a richness to this story that puts it a cut above many other standard romance stories. As far as the experience of this as an audiobook, this narrator has an amazing gift for accents and changing gender in her voice. The drawl of an American southerner, the rhythm of a Nigerian male, cadence of an Indian female, Irish, British and others really enhanced my experience of the story. It"s one I would highly recommend in any format.

Story
In the year 2045, reality is an ugly place. The only time Wade Watts really feels alive is when he’s jacked into the OASIS, a vast virtual world where most of humanity spends their days. When the eccentric creator of the OASIS dies, he leaves behind a series of fiendish puzzles, based on his obsession with the pop culture of decades past. Whoever is first to solve them will inherit his vast fortune—and control of the OASIS itself.

Wil Wheaton is perfection as Wade
Reviewed: 03-01-17
Read this book a few years ago and loved it. Since this was narrated by Wil Wheaton, a voice I knew, I thought I"d give it a try. So glad I did. He brought the story to life in a way that merely reading it did not. Even though I knew the story and what would happen, I was still on the edge of my seat as I experienced everything again through the narration. And damned if I didn"t have tears in me eyes at the end. If all audio books were as great as this, I"d never need to read again.

Story
Set in the 19th century, Isabel Miller"s classic lesbian novel traces the relationship between Patience White and Sarah Dowling, whose romantic bond does not sit well with their puritanical New England community. In addition to being an inspiring love story, the audiobook for Patience and Sarah is an ideal listen for young-adult audiences. It is a story that shows how irrelevant race, religion, and gender are to love and that loving and being loved are what keep us human and sane.

Would you listen to Patience and Sarah again? Why?
I"m familiar with this story, but the voices of Jean Smart and Janis Ian brought these characters to life in a way the voice in my head never did. I will listen to this many times, especially when I share beautiful passages with others.
Who was your favorite character and why?
All of them
Which character – as performed by Jean Smart and Janis Ian – was your favorite?
Jean Smart"s voice of Patience was so sweet and delightful, with a touch of naughty that was just delicious.
Any additional comments?
I laughed out loud, chuckled and at times wept with joy throughout this story.
Can"t wait to listen again.

Story
In seventh-century Britain, small kingdoms are merging, frequently and violently. A new religion is coming ashore; the old gods are struggling, their priests worrying. Hild is the king"s youngest niece, and she has a glimmering mind and a natural, noble authority. She will become a fascinating woman and one of the pivotal figures of the Middle Ages: Saint Hilda of Whitby. But now she has only the powerful curiosity of a bright child, a will of adamant, and a way of seeing the world that can seem uncanny, even supernatural, to those around her.
