Absolutely loved it! It’s giving Seven Days in June and I love that for me. The only thing I didn’t love was that Jo’s POV is in first person and Mal’s is in third person. But please don’t let that stop you from a story I’ll be thinking about for a mighty long time.

Story
The boy who always felt like mine is now the man I can’t have.... Dig a little and you’ll find photos of me in the bathtub with Ezra Stern. Get your mind out of the gutter. We were six months old. Pry and one of us might confess we saved our first kiss for each other. The most clumsy, wet, sloppy...spectacular 30 seconds of my adolescence. Get into our business and you’ll see two families, closer than blood, torn apart in an instant. Twenty years later, my “awkward duckling” best friend from childhood, the boy no one noticed, is a man no one can ignore.

I’m so glad that I listened to this book. Jada has often had people telling her narrative for her, and it’s refreshing that she has had the opportunity to speak her own truth. I appreciated the candor, the vulnerability, the accountability, and the perspective.

The supreme side-eye queen has finally written a book. And it's just as hilarious as her blog. I've been following Luvvie for years, and she is one of few people who can make me cry laughing at just reading her words. This time, I had the privilege of listening to the audiobook. Same effect; pure hilarity. She has some serious essays as well, points that make you think and nod your head. But there were so many passages that earned me the side eye at work for cackling for something no one else could hear. Definitely pick this up as a pick-me-up, and learn a thing or two in the process.

Dan Savage’s mother wants him to get married. His boyfriend, Terry, says “no thanks” because he doesn’t want to act like a straight person. Their six-year-old son, D.J., says his two dads aren’t “allowed” to get married but that he’d like to come to the reception and eat cake. Throw into the mix Dan’s straight siblings, whose varied choices form a microcosm of how Americans are approaching marriage these days, and you get a rollicking family memoir that will have everyone - gay or straight, right or left, single or married - howling with laughter.

I bought this audiobook back in 2012 but just now listened to it. I had no idea what to expect, and I think it actually worked out better that way. Dan Savage wrote about his partner Terry, his son DJ, his loving family, and how marriage does and doesn't work for some couples. His commentary was hilarious, and his conversations with others (mainly his family members) about marriage made great points, for both, straight and same-sex couples. The narrator, Paul Michael Garcia, made the audiobook even more enjoyable. I'm glad I got it and glad I read it. Recommended for anyone who isn't too serious, as I can see some of Dan's writing rubbing the far right the wrong way (especially DJ's opinion of George W. Bush haha)

Story
Budo is lucky as imaginary friends go. He's been alive for more than five years, which is positively ancient in the world of imaginary friends. But Budo feels his age, and thinks constantly of the day when eight-year-old Max Delaney will stop believing in him. When that happens, Budo will disappear. Max is different from other children. Some people say that he has Asperger's Syndrome, but most just say he's "on the spectrum." None of this matters to Budo, who loves Max and is charged with protecting him from the class bully.

Nothing Imaginary About This Friend
Reviewed: 11-22-13
What does it mean when an adult is about to cry at work while listening to an audiobook about imaginary friends? I didn't really have one. I made up twin imaginary friends who lasted about 2 days. But this book, wow. I just may believe in them again. I laughed out loud and I had tears and sad faces during a few parts. How can something "not real" (both fiction & imaginary friends) give you so many feelings? I loved it. I loved the different characters and how it suddenly became a suspense. Don't mind me, just get this book.
