Story
I Am, I Am, I Am is Maggie O'Farrell's astonishing memoir of the near-death experiences that have punctuated and defined her life. The childhood illness that left her bedridden for a year, which she was not expected to survive. A teenage yearning to escape that nearly ended in disaster. An encounter with a disturbed man on a remote path. And, most terrifying of all, an ongoing, daily struggle to protect her daughter - for whom this book was written - from a condition that leaves her unimaginably vulnerable to life's myriad dangers.

Story
Despite moving away from Gloucester in her early 20s and becoming an attorney, Gail continued to use drugs while carrying the shame of her childhood. It wasn’t until she began to appreciate the value in her criminally-charged clients, those with whom she shared similar struggles, that she finally recognized her own worth. This new understanding gave her the courage to put down the drugs, fully embrace her history, and stop hiding.

Story
Billy Todd has always been different. Most people called him odd, and those were the nice people. Though he was born with a learning disability, Billy's parents never allowed him to consider himself disabled. Raised to be self-sufficient, Billy might not be as smart as some, but he was a lot smarter than people realized.

There is a lot to learn in this story. Billy Todd has much to teach the reader about life and human nature. I fell in love with the story about how a community was rebuilt after a virus wiped out 95% of the population. I see things a little differently now. Billy Todd has changed me for the better. Thank you N C Reed for that!

The ending?

OK. I followed along going with the flow of the story. I liked the writing. I liked the characters and the imagery. Very good. But, the ending? What? I won't do a spoiler, but I thought it was a ridiculous coincidence. And, I was not happy about it. Why on earth did the author put in this "twist" ending? Ridiculous. Ask least it was to me.

Epic Story of Survival
Reviewed: 10-31-18
I absolutely loved this story. I raced through all three publisher's pack books--6 books in all. The human race starts all over again after a virus wipes out most of the population. The good and the evil are now fighting for control The good want resources for survival and safety. The evil want power. Dan, the main character, is a leader and a force for good. His background in weaponry helps him protect the people he collects along his journey to begin to build a new world. The character development is first rate. There is an abundance of killing, but it serves to point out the flaws inherent in human nature. The journey is about starting over and the whole of human nature is explored along the way. Epic.

Move over Stephen King

Would you listen to Behind Closed Doors again? Why?
This was the most terrifying book I have ever encountered. The story was riveting and I couldn't stop listening. Exceptional writing. Fabulous plot and great narration. I couldn't wait to see how it ended. This was a cat and mouse game from beginning to end and a nightmare I would really want to wake up from--except, for this poor woman, it wasn't a dream! I give the story a 4 star only because it was so disturbing! No, I won't listen again, although I loved the book. Too scary.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Yes. Yes and yes. I couldn't predict how the heroine would get out of her predicament, until later in the book..
What about Georgia Maguire’s performance did you like?
Pitch perfect narration.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
When Millie knew for certain that Jack was a bad man. She never changed her mind and
kept her cool in difficult situations.
Any additional comments?
Loved the book. Hated that it was so disturbing.
