Story
Adam Binder has the Sight. It’s a power that runs in his bloodline: the ability to see beyond this world and into another, a realm of magic populated by elves, gnomes, and spirits of every kind. Years after his brother Bobby had him committed to a psych ward, Adam is ready to come to grips with who he is, to live his life on his terms, to find love, and maybe even use his magic to do some good. Hoping to track down his missing father, Adam follows a trail of cursed artifacts to Denver, only to discover that an ancient and horrifying spirit has taken possession of Bobby’s wife.

Undelivered Promises

When you pick up an "urban fantasy", there are some expectations.
One, as with ANY title you pick up, you want a good story. This had potential, and was perpetually distracted.
Two, you want a protagonist who can perform. This story does not have that. it's entirely accidental. The protagonist does nothing.
Three, you want relatability. Some sense of being able to center yourself into the story. Unless you're an 11 year old gay male, this won't happen.
The actual underlying story seems to be an afterthought to the author's agenda. If you're wondering about the main character's sexuality, don't worry, you'll be reminded ever 2.5 minutes.
If you want an effective main character, this isn't for you. The story makes it clear that he's weak and useless, at every turn.
If you want magic, don't look here. He doesn't actually perform any, except by proxy, or possibly later... but it's only an emotional thing, not a magical thing, so, don't go hoping.

Story
It's not every afternoon that an enigmatic, comely blonde named Stilton (like the cheese) walks into the scruffy gin joint where Sammy "Two Toes" Tiffin tends bar. It's love at first sight, but before Sammy can make his move, an air force general named Remy arrives with some urgent business. 'Cause when you need something done, Sammy is the guy to go to; he's got the connections on the street.

Sheer Brilliance! BITEBITEBITE!

I am a huge fan of the classic hard-boiled detective stories. I am a huge fan of Christopher Moore.
So when i happened across this offering while scanning for my next audio book, there was absolutely no way I wasn't going to give it a shot.
I haven't laughed out loud at a book like I did listening to this one, EVER.
Mr Moore has produced a book that I'm actually looking forward to consuming a second time.
Johnny Heller's narration is dead-on for the style and his ability to convey characterization in his cadence is supremely impressive.
I just saw that there is a second book coming out in a month, with the same narrator, and there is no way I'm going to miss out on that.
Cheers! BITEBITEBITE!

Windham Manthus is the captain of the Starship Gilead, the most powerful vessel in the sector. He’s battled space pirates and territorial warlords in order to protect his people and his ship. His reputation as a laudable commander has spread across the galaxy, but rumors have begun that he’s losing his edge. When a sect of fanatical cultists murder an entire colony, in order to resurrect an ancient alien god, Windham’s skill is put to the test. He must battle an armada of enemy gunships, hostile space marines, and save the galaxy from total destruction.

This is a fantastic beginning to what appears to be a complex story. The basis for the theme has had me bookmarking many webpages for further background reading.
While the story is engaging and the characters interesting, unlike other reviewers here, I found the narrator disappointing and frankly, distracting.
If the same narrator is picked for future installments of the series, I'm going to be finding it difficult to click the "buy" button on an audible edition. I'd probably save it for reading on the Kindle, instead.
That said, I am looking forward to the next one!
