Story
Stephen Smith is the boy who did not exist. Born out of wedlock in the early 1960s, Steve's parents - both devout Catholics - had felt so 'shamed' by their son's illegitimate birth that they hid him away from the world by locking him in the cellar...for 13 years. Apart from a few admissions to hospital as a result of his 'imprisonment', Steve remained in the coal cellar of the family home where he was deprived of daylight, his childhood, school and human contact until he'd reached his teenage years.

Stephen is so strong to be able to put his horrific and traumatic story on paper. I’m horrified by what he went through but glad how his story turned out! Great book!

Story
Once upon a time, I fell in love with two men. Their feelings for me were matched only by their hatred for each other. Gaeton, with his brash charm and casual cruelty. Beast, his lust equal to his penchant for violence. Being with them was sinful and perfect in different ways. In the end, I couldn’t choose, and I lost them both. Now, my sisters have tasked me with securing our power base, no matter the cost. I will do anything for my family - even if it means agreeing to the terms set by Gaeton and Beast.

What a great listen, the male narrator for Beast made me chuckle a bit and when he spoke for Gaeten he made him sound dumb. But still such an amazing book, didn’t think I’d enjoy it once it started really getting into the heat of things but overall loved it!!!

I wish I followed the reviews and didn’t listen. It was 2 hours of family members saying and yelling nasty things at each other then apologizing and doing it again. The whole story made no sense and the whole situation seemed chaotic. Not a fan.

I felt like I was in the Gamora world but sometimes listening to the narrator’s insanely dramatic voice killed the flow of the story. Overall great book and storyline just the whiny overly dramatic parts were a bit like nails on a chalk board. Worth the listen!

I was not a fan of the main character, she seems like she’s only looking out for herself even though she claims it’s for the victim. The narrator for the character Song, seemed so snotty the entire time. I wasn’t a fan of her overall.

Aggravating!

For the main character to have a PhD and know about trauma and be a psychologist, she sure knows how to NOT do all the things she preaches. She was so aggravating that I wanted to stop because I felt how angry I was getting with every poor decision she made. By the end, like other reviews I’ve seen, I’d hope she ended up a victim herself. The narrator was good though, a bit breathy but good!!

Absolutely hated the male narrators British accent but decided to get past it. The story itself is so typical, nothing we haven’t heard before. Cameron was a terrible character overall, she is childish, does not know how to communicate her feelings, and seems like this is her first real relationship. Very disappointed in this one, I normally enjoy this author but this one was such a waste.
