Excellent but too short

I love this series and the spin off about Oak. However I would have like this to be a full length book rather than a short story bc I enjoy these characters soooooo much.

This was a very unique story with interesting characters who pull you in. Largely original with only a few predictable turns in the story. A good listen with a talented narrator.

Enjoyable story, but..

I really enjoyed this story as I do most vampire stories. The characters were engaging, there was just enough violence, and predictably the good guys win. The only thing I didn’t love about the story was the narrator. His narration of the main character was good. I always like an accent, however, when he had to switch to characters from American in particular his speech became very halting and disjointed, which was at times distracting. If you can ignore that halting manner, then I would definitely recommend this book. Especially if you like vampire stories.

Completely frustrating cliff hanger
Reviewed: 08-11-24
I hate cliff hangers especially when there’s no indication in the title or subtitle that this is part 1 of something. I love these characters and the stories associated with them but I hate when a book clearly ends in the middle of a story as this one did. The title makes you think it’s a full “game” but really it’s just the first set of puzzles that the characters solve and then one of them gets kidnapped in a very predictable fashion. It feels like Ms Barnes had a deadline for her publisher and when she couldn’t meet it, just stoped the story mid act or like the publisher wanted to make more money, so they split a long book into two parts without warning the audience that was happening in advance. It’s not like a to be continued for a subplot, the grandest game didn’t end with a winner yet. I’m totally frustrated bc I hate not knowing what happens and so I will have to buy the sequel. Spending even more money.

Story
Reluctant debutante Sawyer Taft joined Southern high society for one reason and one reason alone: to identify and locate her biological father. But the answers Sawyer found during her debutante year only left her with more questions and one potentially life-ruining secret. When her cousin Lily ropes her into pledging a mysterious, elite all-female secret society called the White Gloves, Sawyer soon discovers that someone in the group's ranks may have the answers she's looking for. No one is quite who they seem to be in this sequel to Jennifer Lynn Barnes’ Little White Lies.

Enjoyable story but make sure you listen/read the first book first or you will be totally lost . I love the main character sawyer even if sometimes I want to strangle her. She is a strong, confident young lady looking to answers about her parentage and people to call family that she can relay on to support her but she’s also wary of being hurt and trusting too much too fast.

I got this book because I really like the inheritance games books by this author. This is similar in the sense that it’s about very rich individuals but also very different. It was an engaging story and I wanted to see how it ended, but if it had been by a different author, I probably would not have listened to it.

Cassel always thought he was an ordinary guy, until he realized his memories were being manipulated by his brothers. Now he knows the truth - he’s the most powerful curse worker around. A touch of his hand can transform anything - or anyone - into something else. That was how Lila, the girl he loved, became a white cat. Cassel was tricked into thinking he killed her, when actually he tried to save her. Now that she’s human again, he should be overjoyed. Trouble is, Lila’s been cursed to love him. And if Lila’s love is as phony as Cassel’s made-up memories, then he can’t believe anything she says or does.
