Story
It seems straightforward to Attorney Nate Shepherd: a middle-aged billionaire dies while celebrating at a wedding reception. The grief-stricken family lashes out, though, blaming the billionaire’s date for his death. When the family brings all of its power to bear, the wheels of local justice threaten to overwhelm the woman. As Nate Shepherd steps in to defend her, he tries to deflect the misplaced anger that’s directed at the woman for the tragedy. But as the investigation progresses, a tangled history unravels, including unexpected ties to Nate’s own life.

I enjoyed this book and the narrator is one of my favorites. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is because the ending is so predictable.

The answer is in The Exchange, the riveting sequel to The Firm, the blockbuster thriller that launched the career of America’s favorite storyteller. It is now fifteen years later, and Mitch and Abby are living in Manhattan, where Mitch is a partner at the largest law firm in the world.

This book is not Grisham’s style.

If I didn’t know better I would never attribute this book to Grisham. I am not a fan of books about terrorist and maybe that clouded my opinion but I am so disappointed in this book. It is so shallow with little character development. I like the reader and have read many of the books he has narrated but I prefer Beck for the Grisham books. I will just hope the next one is back up to his usual wonderful book as he continues to be one of my favorites. Not giving up yet!

Looking Forward to Book 2
Reviewed: 10-05-23
I enjoyed this book and the reader and look forward to the next book in this new series. I liked the Low Country series but this is better. My only complaint is all of the to-do about her being vegan and what she had to eat at every stop. That part was not necessary and didn't contribute anything at all to the story. Other than that - it was a winner. Sometimes it's fun to listen to
or read a light mystery.

Disappointed
Reviewed: 06-07-23
I am a huge Jana DeLeon fan but this was not up to par. Exaggerated Southern accent was nerve wracking, story lacked any depth at all, and explicit bedroom scenarios were dime store worthy and contributed nothing. I stretched to give it 3 stars. If this was the first book of hers that I read (listened to) It would be my last. I’m sticking to the Miss Fortune series.

Story
Everyone has secrets, and Rachel Holloway is no exception. She’s worked hard to keep the past where it belongs: dead and buried. And so far, she’s been very successful. But now the small newspaper where she works wants to produce a podcast on a cold case: the disappearance 12 years ago of young Molly Forster. Some secrets should never see the light of day, and, as far as Rachel is concerned, whatever happened to little Molly is one of them.

This was one that was so good I couldn't stop listening. It grabs you from the beginning and keep you engaged all of the way through. I look forward to listening to more from this author and from this excellent narrator. There were a few things in the actual story line that were a bit unbelievable and that is why it did not receive all 5 stars.

Disappointing
Reviewed: 07-27-22
After reading reviews, I was disappointed in this book. The actual story was good and I think I might enjoy reading the book but it was very hard for me to attend to the audible. It just didn't hold my interest and I think the narration was the main problem. I finished it and was glad for it to end.

Amazed at the Positive Reviews
Reviewed: 06-16-22
I rarely come across a book that does not have any redeeming qualities but this is one of them. The plot is weak, the main characters are not particularly likable and it is extremely crude. The language is filthy and it's hard to believe any woman in this day would enjoy the macho males and the weak females. The first half is readable but the second half is ridiculously horrible.

The Plot Becomes More Interesting
Reviewed: 08-08-15
Would you consider the audio edition of What She Left Behind to be better than the print version?
NO! If I had it to do over, I would read the book. The reader is VERY distracting. I almost gave up several times until I got interested in the plot and decided to persevere. It was a good (not GREAT) book but the reader ruins it.
What did you like best about this story?
I appreciated that after all of the hardships and sadness, it did have a happy ending.
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
She was monotonous, her diction was too precise and her "other" voices were not good at all.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I have to admit, that the ending made me shed a few tears.
