Not your normal litrpg. Excellent story depth
Reviewed: 02-15-24
While every other litrpg seems to be fantasy and all about combat, Tailspin takes a pleasant new approach to the genre.
The story follows a helo pilot on his journey to through life. Through both hardships and rewards, the story makes you actually feel for the main character. The story even got a reaction out of me that I had to complain to the author about a secondary character which Dawn enjoyed.
Throughout book one, there was left open several questions still. To me the biggest is how critical is Shay and his walrat to the story and the main character? They do take up a decent amount of screen time which I’m hoping leads the way to the answer in book 2. The relationships in the book are also non-standard which makes you actually have to think.
Overall the story and performance were both excellent. Dawn writes a captivating story that grabbed me not in the traditional action/suspense method but instead I found myself really wanting to know what happened next. Stephanie is a narrator I wish we got more of within the genre and her performance is top notch as the rest of her’s are. This was my first exposure to Neil and found the performance solid.

Great Story and Narrator but not ideal pair
Reviewed: 08-09-23
I've listened to a lot of Samara's other series but to me this one does not fully fit. I can't put the exact part that doesn't fit but the narration style and the context of the story was somewhat mismatched for me. This may just be a personal preference
The story itself though was intriguing and a good mix of multiple lesser used elements of LitRPG stories that need to be used more.

While book 1 was great there is just so much in book 2. The story moves away from the nsfw aspect and builds into major conflict.
The emotion that the narrators expressed was amazing to hear.
Amazingly done and can’t wait to hear book 3.

Continuation of a fun story
Reviewed: 06-26-23
If you’ve made it this far you know what to expect. The pop culture gag reels, the dicken jokes and the out of game action.
Of all of the true “dungeon core” stories this is the most enjoyable and not the normal dungeon core style. There’s actual thought and the core isn’t purely about murdering everyone

This is the setup for the final book.
The emotions that have been slowly building the entire season get thrown out the window and you get hit with a secondary set.
Steve put incredible feeling behind Alex’s words that made you partially feel what the characters were feeling during the events.
I can’t wait for the final

Reviewed: 08-08-22
Within the litrpg/gamelit genre there are very few Space Sci-fi stories. Alex does it justice with the story telling being the main focus over combat.
The amount of information put into the story for it only being 5.5 hours, made it feel a lot longer and felt like it was worth more than some of books I've listened to that have over inflated combats just to hit the 10 hour mark.
Do not skip on this just because of the length.

Story
With the creation of his fourth floor to focus on and his burgeoning relationship with Rue to enjoy, James is ready to simply immerse himself in everything that DCO has to offer. With his players now able to take to the seas, there is a whole new set of mechanics to explore. Not to mention another set of random mobs, each more ridiculous and terrifying than the last. I mean who doesn’t want to see a zombie megalodon summon a tornado full of undead sharks? And, as DCO grows, so, too, does its impact on the world.

A lot of material and twists
Reviewed: 05-26-22
The story continues where books 1 and 2 left off so if this is the first you are looking at the series go back and read books 1 and 2 (if you look at the series, note Dicken Around is a side story and I would recommend listening to after Dungeon Core Online book 2).
There are pros and cons to the book overall. Having seen posts and comments by the author, you can tell this was originally designed to be 2 separate books and you can tell that. Due to this, it felt like there was too much information put into the story and I would personally have preferred a more flushed out 2 separate books.
Additionally, the side characters from Dicken Around, I'm happy to say play a more major role in this book. The story they bring into the overall greater story adds in the out of game aspect which I greatly enjoy.
Overall I'm eagerly waiting for the next book which unfortunately I expect will be a larger gap than books 1 to 2 and books 2 to 3.

Jax has one chance to keep his people safe from the storm and the war that's building on the horizon, but it'll take balls of steel, brains of mince—and he's really going to need to be lucky as hell to pull this one off. The Legion rises along with their Scion, buoyed aloft on waves of hope, but not all are as dedicated as they may seem.

Neil does an excellent job with the large array of characters he is asked to voice and Dawn weaves a story that takes you on a journey.
My only complaint is the stat sheets are LONG. They do shorten some as the story goes on though

There is another view that says this better.
My biggest issue is the male narrator, he narrated as if William Shatner was doing it and made it very complicated to immerse oneself
The story though was excellent, slow burn to start but the system in place was a good change of pace along with non-typical MC
