Story
Maggie Smith and Jonathan Pryce star in William Wycherley’s raunchy Restoration comedy. Considered too obscene to be staged in its original form for nearly 200 years, William Wycherley’s bawdy comedy tells the tale of Mr Horner, a notorious rake who spreads the false rumour that he is impotent in order to gain free access to other men’s wives. When he meets the young, innocent Margery Pinchwife, the ‘country wife’ of the title, the scene is set for scandal.

SO MUCH of original play is cut out
Reviewed: 02-27-24
Very funny story, disturbing at times. Definitely would recommend reading the play on your own rather than listening since there are so many characters to keep up with and so many parts cut out from this version.

One of Shaw's most enduring works, Pygmalion is an insightful comedy of class relations and perceptions, as played out between a Cockney flower girl and the irascible speech professor who has taken her on as a pet project.

I really enjoyed how the laugh track was included, this is a comedy. Though it may make people sad and uncomfortable at times I enjoyed the laugh track reinforcing that this was a comedy as it elevates one’s anger toward Henry Higgins. Really interesting question about sex work being analyzed here.

Sir Ian McKellen, fresh from his performance as Gandalf in Lord of the Rings, is Prospero, and heads a strong cast in Shakespeare’s last great play. The wronged duke raises a tempest to shipwreck his old opponents on his island so that he can ensure justice is done. With Emilia Fox as Miranda, Scott Handy in the pivotal role of the sprite Ariel, and Ben Owukwe as Caliban.

Cool when seen through the lense of Shakespeare saying goodbye. Also interesting when seen through the lense of colonialism. Without a lense this story is quite boring however. Easy reading and don’t need the text in front of u to understand.

Story
This shattering drama of isolation and loss is one of the greatest tragedies in world literature. King Lear of Britain has three daughters: the hard-hearted Goneril and Regan, and the good and gentle Cordelia. He determines to divide his kingdom between them, giving the largest share to she who can say she loves him the best. Lear's tragic lack of judgment and self-knowledge is paralleled by the blindness of the loyal Gloucester who is persuaded to reject his virtuous son, Edgar, in favor of the villainous Edmund.

Disturbing, Heartbreaking, Amazing

A bit slow paced to begin with. Be ready to cry just like most Shax. The actors did amazing but it’s hard listening to people screaming out in pain. A lot of characters and tricky poetry I would recommend reading along with a text while listening.

Story
In Shakespeare's most controversial play, the opposing values of justice and mercy must be resolved. Antonio promises money to help his friend Bassanio woo Portia. He borrows the sum needed from the cruel Shylock, but there will be a dreadful penalty if the loan is not repaid. The golden world of Portia's Belmont calls forth some of Shakespeare's most lyrical love poetry. But the dark shadow of Shylock is never far from the heart of this brilliant comedy as it moves toward its courtroom climax.

Good reading, difficult play to listen to

I enjoyed the voice actors, music, and pacing. Unfortunately, this is not one of my favorite Shakespeare plays the ending leaves the reader very dissatisfied, the anti-semitism is hard to read, and it is very PG.

Scenes and Characters are completely taken out of the story here. I would reccomend reading along with your own copy and pausing as soon as the text jumps to read on your own. The readers did good, but it’s hard to enjoy Shakespeare’s writing when it is cut out. Very interesting play in Divine Right and the corruption of elites.

Story
The noble Titus returns victorious to Rome bringing Tamora, Queen of the Goths as his captive. When one of Tamora's sons is condemned to die, she vows revenge, and, aided by the villainous Aaron, she exacts a terrible retribution, inaugurating a grim cycle of rape, murder, and cannibalism. This macabre, often brilliant tragedy comes from the earliest stage of Shakespeare's dramatic career.

Gruesome story

Some parts of the play are cut out and this play is deeply disturbing. The kissing is quite loud and the content in this makes it hard to want to read more than once, but it is a good play. Would reccomend. Some argue Aaron’s character is racist but it’s nice to see the unexpected black main character role. This play is heavy on mommy issues and daddy issues.
