Story
James A. Garfield may have been the most extraordinary man ever elected president. Born into abject poverty, he rose to become a wunderkind scholar, a Civil War hero, and a renowned and admired reformist congressman. Nominated for president against his will, he engaged in a fierce battle with the corrupt political establishment. But four months after his inauguration, a deranged office seeker tracked Garfield down and shot him in the back. But the shot didn’t kill Garfield. The drama of what happened subsequently is a powerful story of a nation in turmoil.

At first, the pace was slow. But the details of the story were interesting so it kept me engaged. I love the worlds that Holmberg creates. This is my se one series of hers that I’ve read. I don’t know how she puts so many books out so close together, but I’m grateful she does. This was a great book to listen to while doing chores or laundry or yardwork and I appreciate the characters recognizing their flaws, not only to themselves, but acknowledging them to each other as they try to move forward.

Story
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

I couldn't stop listening to this story. Its beautifully written, in a prose I haven't heard the likes of on ages. Heavy but so deep. A book that is really reflective and compels introspection across many facets. A must listen.

A classic to me!

I read this book in junior high and I loved it since. An audio "re-read" was a must for me so many years later. I love the way Woods unravels the tale between different decades and weaves it together until the tapestry is revealed. A great "whodunit" without the romantic mushy stuff, but not void of sentiment or poignancy. A great listen for those who like mysteries involving law enforcement. Though this isn't a western, anyone who likes westerns would probably appreciate this tale and may find a new offshoot of reading material they can enjoy.

I love Dr. Schwartzman's character and I'm eager to see where the next book takes her (hopefully, she'll have some resolutions to her personal life's concerns). I love the development I see in the character, she is coming into a new season of her life where she won't let certain aspects of her past control her anymore and she's allowing people in her present to have some power to help her through it without giving up complete self-control. I like this refined version of her and I like seeing her progress. I have loved Girard's cops series'.

Good listen if you expect mature themes/language
Reviewed: 06-19-18
Obviously, this isn't a young adult book, so expect mature themes and language and you won't feel shocked when it comes. This series swears more than the previous I thought, but I loved the characters so much I was able to ignore it. I love the perspectives of multiple characters being jumped between, I love that the listeners hears more than one side of the different intertwined crimes and personal lives of the inspectors. I am eager to read the next in the series. If you like other Girard books, you'll like this one.

Story
Empress Elizabeth of Austria, known as "Sisi", is the Princess Diana of 19th-century Europe. Famously beautiful, as captured in a portrait with diamond stars in her hair, she is unfulfilled in her marriage to the older Emperor Franz Joseph. Sisi has spent years evading the stifling formality of royal life on her private train or yacht or, whenever she can, on the back of a horse. Captain Bay Middleton is dashing, young, and the finest horseman in England. He is also impoverished, with no hope of buying the horse needed to win the Grand National....

I love history and I love historical fiction. This is a must for any Jane Austen fan. I was annoyed with Bay and the Empress, but I think many listeners would be able to imagine things from each characters perspective and consider why they may have acted as they did, even if you don't agree with their choices and actions. I love Charlotte I wish more was known about her true biography.

I liked the story. It's pretty fast-paced, so you get into it quickly, but there was so much swearing and lot of f-bombs. The narrators were great story tellers, but I'm not sure If I will continue with this series if the language is the same in the subsequent books.
