A charming story of life
Reviewed: 08-30-23
This is a wonderful children's classic, done well. While I didn't LOVE the reader's voice, it wasn't unpleasant, and she did have an excellent Maine accent (authentic sounding to ant New Englander's ear) for her characters' voices, so that this true Maine gem sounded just right. I think that you will enjoy it too!

A monotonous yet moving marvel
Reviewed: 08-04-22
Jules Verne's 20,000 Leagues is quite the novel. It can bore you to tears with classification of marine life (unless you enjoy that kind of thing) and then thrill you with terrifying or impressive drama. Bill Homewood does a remarkable job keeping the listener engaged, and indeed breathless as you imagine the crew about to perish from asphyxiation. Overall an enjoyable experience.

Reviewed: 06-02-22
Elizabeth Gaskell's Mary Barton is a book you can't put down, as the storyline draws you in and keeps you spellbound. The beauty of it is she weaves in a wonderful moral, and leaves you understanding both viewpoints of the rich and the poor, meaning that you are morally the richer for reading (listening). Wonderful!!

What a masterful job Candace Millard did in researching and compiling this compelling historical narrative from Teddy Roosevelt's life. Not knowing much about the former president, I found so much to appreciate in his character and example. The narration was good and the book was very enjoyable.

An excellent description of why hydration is essential for everyone, and expert, up to date advice on how to optimally hydrate. Exceptional content and well written. The narration was disappointing as it sounded at times like the voices had been sampled by a computer and the computer was doing the reading with their voices. It seemed that way because of unnatural pauses in the reading. Otherwise it was outstanding.

Story
On September 1, 1894, two forest fires converged on the town of Hinckley, Minnesota, trapping over 2,000 people. Daniel J. Brown recounts the events surrounding the fire in the first and only book to chronicle the dramatic story that unfolded. Whereas Oregon's famous "Biscuit" fire in 2002 burned 350,000 acres in one week, the Hinckley fire did the same damage in five hours. The fire created its own weather, including hurricane-strength winds, bubbles of plasmalike glowing gas, and 200-foot-tall flames.
