Story
Whole Foods Market cofounder John Mackey and professor and Conscious Capitalism, Inc. cofounder Raj Sisodia argue for the inherent good of both business and capitalism. Featuring some of today's best-known and most-successful companies, they illustrate how these two forces can - and do - work most powerfully to create value for all stakeholders, including customers, employees, suppliers, investors, society, and the environment.

Extremely flawed perspective
Reviewed: 12-12-20
Mackey has a serious case of tunnel vision. This book is the quintessential instruction manual for businesses that ‘greenwash’ their image.
It should be called ‘Barely Conscious Capitalism’ because if people embrace the advice in this little manifesto of Mackey’s, they will allow for the National Socialist (NAZI) corporations like Amazon continue to get away with the same unregulated, irresponsible, psychopathic growth that has destroyed the middle class and made billionaires out of a handful of these banal egocentric maniacs!
Who wants to live in a world filled with underpaid, over stressed, desperate ‘employees’(slaves)?
This will be the legacy of these monster companies that proclaim ‘democratic socialism is evil’ as they take massive bailouts from the government they control. They have no place in democracies if they are allowed to subvert the democratic process. No amount of ‘win win win’ can gloss over that.

The previous edition of this now-classic book revealed the existence and subversive manipulations of "economic hit men". John Perkins wrote that economic hit men (EHM) "are highly paid professionals who cheat countries around the globe out of trillions of dollars. Their tools include fraudulent financial reports, rigged elections, payoffs, extortion, sex, and murder".

Story
Most of us have instinctive evidence the world is ending - balmy December days, face-to-face conversation replaced with heads-to-screens zomboidism, a world at constant war, a political system in disarray. We hear some myths and lies so frequently that they feel like truths: Civilization is humankind’s greatest accomplishment. Progress is undeniable. Count your blessings. You’re lucky to be alive here and now. Civilized to Death counters the idea that progress is inherently good, arguing that the "progress" defining our age is analogous to an advancing disease.

Since Darwin's day, we've been told that sexual monogamy comes naturally to our species. Mainstream science - as well as religious and cultural institutions - has maintained that men and women evolved in families in which a man's possessions and protection were exchanged for a woman's fertility and fidelity. But this narrative is collapsing....

Story
Terence McKenna hypothesizes that as the North African jungles receded, giving way to savannas and grasslands near the end of the most recent ice age, a branch of our arboreal primate ancestors left the forest canopy and began living in the open areas beyond. There they experimented with new varieties of foods as they adapted, physically and mentally, to the environment. Among the new foods found in this environment were psilocybin-containing mushrooms.

The field of archeology needs this book. There continues to be such animosity, lack of imagination and general sheep mindedness among archeologists, anthropologists, historians etc. today, it is simply counter to original ideas and discoveries. Mr. Hancock reminds us that original ideas and an appreciation for the vast swaths of knowledge, which one may be ignorant towards, are the most important mind states to cultivate.

Story
When we think of ancient Rome, the first notion that comes to mind is the one of the empire, followed by the image of a mighty emperor, his legions, colossal buildings, and the Gladiators (or the rhetoric and poetry, depending on your preferences). Some may recall the image of a “unified” Europe under a single sovereign - the emperor of Rome. However, Rome did not become remarkable at this considerably late phase. In fact, many historians see the history of Rome under the Emperors as a long, gradual decline. It was during the republic that Rome gained an empire.

If this is what people are listening to for their education, we are in trouble. Not only is this terribly written, but also, there are A LOT of words that the narrator doesn't even pronounce properly. He also doesn't even read the sentences right. There are long pauses and disjointed, incomplete sentences.
Don't pay attention to the 5 star reviews, they must be fake. If you want to learn about Roman history, look elsewhere.
