Story
When a box from her mother showed up on Katy Tur’s doorstep, months into the pandemic and just as she learned she was pregnant with her second child, she didn’t know what to expect. The box contained thousands of hours of video—the work of her pioneering helicopter journalist parents. They grew rich and famous for their aerial coverage of Madonna and Sean Penn’s secret wedding, the Reginald Denny beating in the 1992 Los Angeles riots, and O.J. Simpson’s notorious run in the white Bronco.

Story
In the tradition of Out of My Mind, Wonder, and Mockingbird, this is an intensely moving middle grade novel about being an outsider, coping with loss, and discovering the true meaning of family. Willow Chance is a 12-year-old genius, obsessed with nature and diagnosing medical conditions, who finds it comforting to count by sevens. It has never been easy for her to connect with anyone other than her adoptive parents, but that hasn’t kept her from leading a quietly happy life...until now.

The excellent narration told the story of space/rocketry in the late 50's. I liked learning about the events that happened though the story of the lead character was rather weak.

The next book in the perennially adored No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency series sees Precious Ramotswe calling upon all her maternal instincts when she's faced with a two-ton case. They say it takes a village to raise a child, but can Mma. Ramotswe and the rest of the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency come together to raise a pipsqueak pachyderm? We may find out in this novel. We may not. Who can say?

Ruined by terrible narration.
Reviewed: 12-22-20
I have read (listened) to every book in this series and enjoyed every one! What a disapointment to look forward to another in this series and find the new narrator simply dreadful. She was fine with Mma Ramotswe and so awful with Mma Grace Makutsi, her peculiarities notwithstanding. When she tried to voice Mma Potokwane she sounded as if she were reading a scary book. The narrator simply did not get the essence of the hapless yet lovable Charlie. Even when she described the little white van, the narrator did not seem to understand what the van represented to Mma Ramotswe.
I was unable to finish listening to this story as I found the narration so not in keeping with the author's clear description of the essence of the characters.

Story
In this brilliant book, Isabel Wilkerson gives us a masterful portrait of an unseen phenomenon in America as she explores, through an immersive, deeply researched narrative and stories about real people, how America today and throughout its history has been shaped by a hidden caste system, a rigid hierarchy of human rankings. Beautifully written, original, and revealing, Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents is an eye-opening story of people and history, and a reexamination of what lies under the surface of ordinary lives and of American life today.

Story
Preet Bharara has spent much of his life examining our legal system, pushing to make it better, and prosecuting those looking to subvert it. Bharara believes in our system and knows it must be protected, but to do so, he argues, we must also acknowledge and allow for flaws both in our justice system and in human nature. Bharara uses the many illustrative anecdotes and case histories from his storied, formidable career - the successes as well as the failures - to shed light on the realities of the legal system and the consequences of taking action.

Values and True Stories Meet!
Reviewed: 05-01-19
This book is written always with the underpinning of sound values. We learn through warm and interesting stories about the bedrock of humanity. We learn about "right" and "wrong". We learn about a system of justice that seeks to be fair and depends on the decency of people who administer outcomes of crime and subsequent punishment. Most of all this book gives a glance into the persistence of character in a man, Preet Bharara, who was entrusted with the administration of justice prior to jury and judge. He speaks of lessons he inculcates in his staff.
Preet writes deep philosophic thoughts in a style reminiscent of the poet Robert Frost. Simple language is married to depth of thought. Bharara teaches lessons through stories. For example with his wife he teaches his young children when to speak up and when settling disputes is best handled with your sibling. Preet writes of kindness to incarcerated persons and how treatment of this population by a colleague in a humane fashion he admires.
I know Preet's parents are surely very proud of him and my hope is that he is as proud of his accomplishments and proud of himself.

Story
In August of 1914, the British ship Endurance set sail for the South Atlantic. In October 1915, still half a continent away from its intended base, the ship was trapped, then crushed in the ice. For five months, Sir Ernest Shackleton and his men, drifting on ice packs, were castaways in one of the most savage regions of the world. Lansing describes how the men survived a 1,000-mile voyage in an open boat across the stormiest ocean on the globe and an overland trek through forbidding glaciers and mountains.
