Compelling and Sad Coming of Age Story
Reviewed: 11-30-22
The story is of innocence lost and finding the courage to speak out. I found myself remembering the days of my teen years of no adult supervision & getting into situations that could have ended badly. Excellent storytelling by the author and very good audio.

Story
The arrival of a very important person in her office seemed to be the start of a lot of problems for Kit Colbana, investigator extraordinaire. Claiming that he needed somebody with her special skillset, he sends her on a series of jobs that made little to no sense until one culminated with both her and her partner, Justin, barely escaping with their lives.

I am in love with the main characters even though I want to scream at them while listening, lol. I love how the author has developed the interpersonal relationships between several of the characters & not solely focused on just Kit & Daimen.
The storylines in the different books of this series are all compelling by themselves while still interweaving from book to book. I'm looking forward to the next installment.

Masterful Storytelling

The writer has woven a tale that captivated me from the start. I listen to audio books while I commute. This is a story that has caused me to sit in my car after I get to my destination just to keep listening to what's about to happen next.
The main character is telling her our story and the descriptive scenes and her recollections are so smoothly told that I felt immersed into the story.

A soldier raised as heir to an empire, Zarrah is motivated by two truths. The first is that the Veliant family murdered her mother. And the second is that her pursuit of vengeance will put every last one of them in their graves. The Endless War between Maridrina and Valcotta has raged for generations, leaving thousands of Zarrah’s people dead and countless more orphaned. So when she’s given command of the contested city of Nerastis, Zarrah is prepared to do whatever it takes to destroy the Maridrinian forces who oppose her. And to kill the Veliant prince who leads them.

I was entranced by the telling of this story from the very beginning. There's many plot lines and I was confused a few times at the changes but this had more to do with my habit of listening to audio books as I work. My work was getting in the way of listening to the story, lol.
I am looking forward to the next book.

I enjoyed the character development over the storyline. The main character is frustratingly naive but it's actually more believable than if she suddenly became bada** overnight The pacing of the narrator was spot on.

Story
From executive producers of The Walking Dead and Travis Beacham, the writer of Pacific Rim, comes a heart-stopping Audible Original featuring a brilliant British cast. It’s the near future and seven years since a comet hit the earth and blotted out the sun. The world is a dark, frozen landscape. And then, beastly creatures emerge and take over. A story of apocalypse, horror, and adventure, Impact Winter is a wholly original new saga created just for Audible with immersive 3D audio that dares you to pop in your earbuds and listen in the dark.

This audio book hooked both myself & my husband who doesn't normally listen to books. He would ask me each day if I had cheated & listened without him.
The characters are richly developed and the narrations by the different cast members instead of 1 or 2 narrators using different tones for multiple characters takes the story to a whole other level. The multi cast along with the background music & sound effects is the next level of audio books!
I highly recommend this story and can't wait for the continuation.

She’ll have to spend the night in the rest stop with four complete strangers. Then she stumbles across a little girl locked inside one of their parked cars. Excellent audio book for Commuting
Reviewed: 05-26-18
I love a good story with a surprising plot twists and this book has plenty! I must stay the main character's personality is not endearing and some of her choices had me yelling "NO" as I listened. But that's what was so brilliant about the storyline, you become invested in her struggle to do the right thing. I usually only listen to audio books during my work commutes but I found myself not wanting to wait and listened in my office & at home.
