Story
It is 1870 and Captain Jefferson Kyle Kidd travels through northern Texas, giving live readings to paying audiences hungry for news of the world. An elderly widower who has lived through three wars and fought in two of them, the captain enjoys his rootless, solitary existence. In Wichita Falls, he is offered a $50 gold piece to deliver a young orphan to her relatives in San Antonio. Four years earlier, a band of Kiowa raiders killed Johanna's parents and sister; sparing the little girl, they raised her as one of their own.

Loved the book AND the movie
Reviewed: 10-29-21
Although there are difference between the two, both the book and the movie hit the mark. I would recommend reading the book first to get details on things that are not part of the movie. Very well read by Mr. Gardner.

Alice Wright marries handsome American Bennett Van Cleve hoping to escape her stifling life in England. But small-town Kentucky quickly proves equally claustrophobic, especially living alongside her overbearing father-in-law. So, when a call goes out for a team of women to deliver books as part of Eleanor Roosevelt’s new traveling library, Alice signs on enthusiastically. The leader, and soon Alice's greatest ally, is Margery, a smart-talking, self-sufficient woman who's never asked a man's permission for anything.

A very enjoyable story based on the WPA pack horse library project in the 1930's. I found myself wanting to know more about the author of the poem that is the book's title, as well as the history of this project. Julia Whelan once again delivers a wonderful reading. Recommend for anyone who likes historical fiction.

Story
Laugh-out-loud funny and deeply touching, Beth Hoffman's sparkling debut is, as Kristin Hannah says, "packed full of Southern charm, strong women, wacky humor, and good old-fashioned heart." It is a novel that explores the indomitable strengths of female friendship and gives us the story of a young girl who loses one mother and finds many others.

Sweet story of overcoming
Reviewed: 08-25-21
First of all, Jenna Lamia had me totally convinced that this book was being read by a child! But her narration of ALL the characters was fantastic, and the adults felt like adults with her voicing of them. CeeCee, Aunt Tootie, Oletta, Thelma Goodpepper - all of these women came alive and I'll miss them terribly now that I've completed the book. I sorta want to move to Savannah!

Story
Ever have one of those days where life just plain sucks? Welcome to my last three months - ever since I caught my can’t-be-soon-enough-ex-husband cheating with his paralegal. I’m 35 years old, and I’ve lost my NYC apartment, my job, my money, and frankly, my dignity. But the final heartache in the suck sandwich of my life? My great-aunt Maggie died. The only family member who’s ever gotten me. Even after death, though, she’s helping me get back up again. Too bad that bravado only lasts as long as it takes to drive into Huckleberry Hills. And see the house.

Too much "inner voice"
Reviewed: 08-04-21
I think I understand where the authors were trying to go with this - recovering from a mentally abusive and controlling relationship. But the constant reference to "my inner voice" got annoying, and the the whole thing felt familiar and predictable.

Between his work on the 2014 Audible Audiobook of the Year, Hamlet, Prince of Denmark: A Novel, and his performance of Classic Love Poems, narrator Richard Armitage ( The Hobbit, Hannibal) has quickly become a listener favorite. Now, in this defining performance of Charles Dickens' classic David Copperfield, Armitage lends his unique voice and interpretation, truly inhabiting each character and bringing real energy to the life of one of Dickens' most famous characters.

Mr. Armitage's performance of David Copperfield made the book come alive! There are many characters and he managed to give each of them their own voice and personality. I can still hear Betsey Trotwood's wonderful brogue accent even now. At 36 hours it's a big undertaking but I thoroughly enjoyed every minute. Bravo!

Story
RITA Award finalist and Christy Award winner Julie Klassen delivers historical romances brimming with the eloquence and intensity of Jane Austen. In an abandoned gatehouse on an old estate, Mariah Aubrey lives in seclusion. She supports herself by writing novels in secret—at a time when such writing is considered improper and unladylike. Soon the wealthy and ambitious Captain Bryant leases the estate and is intrigued by the beautiful girl in the gatehouse.

Needless subplot felt out of place
Reviewed: 11-15-19
The main story was predictable but interesting. I don't want to give anything away but when the subplot entered into the narrative it was jarring and felt out of place. It ended as quickly as it began without really taking on the ramifications of such an experience. The end of the story felt short-changed and rushed.
