February, 1906. A sophisticated tale that wraps the past with Greek myth.

This was a very engaging mystery set in the early 20th century and includes historical figures both real and mythical. I hopeful that the main characters get back together in another installment.
The narration was superb, in fact it was my wish to hear more of Nicola Barber that led me to this book

Another Stoker Win
Reviewed: 03-09-24
Susan Stoker is worth every one of the Audible credits I trade for one of her masterpieces.
Her stories are exciting, her men are Alpha Cinnamon Rolls (is this a thing?), and her women are so imperfectly perfect, everyday heroines.
I’ve really enjoyed this series and Marlow and Kendrick’s story is no different. Susan, with this series and several others, addresses PTSD post-military life, and does a masterful job through both Kendrick and Marlow. It’s a fast-paced, immediately heart-pumping from the first page. And of course, the love story is sweet, sultry, and satisfying.
I’m looking forward to JJ and April’s story next!

Story
Mallory Greenleaf is done with chess. Every move counts nowadays; after the sport led to the destruction of her family four years earlier, Mallory’s focus is on her mom, her sisters, and the dead-end job that keeps the lights on. That is, until she begrudgingly agrees to play in one last charity tournament and inadvertently wipes the board with notorious “Kingkiller” Nolan Sawyer: current world champion and reigning Bad Boy of chess.

Great YA debut!
Reviewed: 12-02-23
I’m well past my YA years, yet buying this audiobook was a no brainer because ALI HAZELWOOD! She never disappoints.
Check and Mate is clever, funny, and of course the smart girls rule in the face of a world stacked against them.
This time that world is chess and learning about the world of competitive chess was equally as fascinating as the story itself.
I looked up the age bracket for YA, which is 14-18. I’d err on the side of caution with 14-15 year olds and have them wait a couple of years. Intimate scenes were closed door, however there are adult themes regarding family dynamics and tragedy that youngsters don’t need to be exposed to. I am not a parent however, so take that with a grain of salt.
Five stars from me!

Before he was “Big Texas,” he was “Zac the Snack Pack". Bianca Brannen knows time - mostly - heals all wounds. Including those your once loved ones might have unintentionally given you. (Those just take longer.) She thinks she’s ready when a call has her walking back into her old friend’s life. Or at least, as prepared as possible to see the starting quarterback in the National Football Organization. Before the lights, the fans, and the millions, he’d been a skinny kid with a heart of gold.

Callie Dalton is phenomenal narrator and Chris Brinkley’s Texan drawl was yummy.

For too long, I've been alone. Just me and my daughter. Keeping her safe is everything, so taking a job in the remote Scottish Highlands suits us fine. I shouldn't need anything more. Yet, I'm beyond distracted by a lass. Smart, beautiful, and living right next door, Cait McRae makes it clear she's not interested. Every sly glance tells another story.

This was a fantastic story made even better by perfect narrators. I could have listened to these two narrate a telephone book.
Lochie is a wonderful, imperfect, alpha protector Hero. He has his eyes on Katrina (Kate) the moment he first saw her. Kate is such an interesting heroine. Atypical, which was refreshing.
This book has great characters, a wonderful, sexy romance with a perfect amount of suspense. I’m looking forward to Cameron’s story.

Excellent as always, Susan Stoker.
Reviewed: 04-10-21
Scott and Elodie both feel an instant connection when they meet under intense circumstances, while Scott’s SEAL team is rescuing her and her ship/work mates from pirates. The connection is real when the two meet again in Hawaii, the SEAL team’s home base. But Elodie is hiding something and Scott knows it. Elodie is reluctant to involve Scott and his team, because of the danger following her. But she’s falling in love with the big Navy SEAL and resisting his desire to cherish and protect her is futile.
Scott and Elodie make a great couple. Elodie has done a heck of a job protecting herself from the man out to end her. She’s smart and resourceful and scared out of her mind. Scott is wonderful. A bada$$ Navy SEAL as you’d expect, but as sweet and sexy as can be when it comes to loving Elodie.
This is a fast moving story and the ten hours of audio seemed to melt away because the story was so good. I believe this is the first time Susan Stoker has used two narrators and I really enjoyed listening to both female and male voices. I wish the narrators had read the main characters together, instead of narrating each chapter separately. I found the male narrator’s interpretation of Elodie to be very different from the female narrator’s portrayal. Elodie, as narrated by the male, sounded almost snarky, instead of teasing, as she was meant to be. They were more in sync with Scott. Still very much worth the effort and expense of having two narrators.
I highly recommend this book!

The story is a compelling cozy mystery that keeps the listener guessing until the end. The narration is the best I’ve ever heard. The voice and accent performance is wonderful and fun.
Start at the beginning of the series if you can, so you can get to know Major “don’t call me Heathcliff, Old Stick” Lennox and his ever-growing band of friends. You’ll love each book.

A Perfect Stoker Story as Always
Reviewed: 09-21-20
This is the first time I’ve listened to an audiobook before the print or ebook has been released. Well done to Susan Stoker to make her books 100% accessible to ALL of her fans, even before the print book.
Securing Kalee was wonderful and bittersweet for me. The SEAL Team Legacy series was the first one I read by Susan and in the six months since I read Securing Caite, I’ve fallen in love with every one of her Heroes and Heroines.
Securing Kalee is a bit different in that the heart-pumping danger and drama is not as prevalent as usual. Much time is spent on the relationship between Phantom and Kalee and the unique challenges they each bring to the table.
Phantom is the self acknowledged grump of the SEAL team. We finally began to learn about his horrific childhood at the end of the last book, which explains the surliness Phantom often displays. Sometimes it was to the point when you just want to tell him to get over himself and relax. Ahhhh, but then learning what a kind and thoughtful man Phantom actually is through his absolute stellar care of Kalee, even before he met her, would not be quite as sweet.
Kalee, is the toughest Stoker heroine I can recall (and that’s saying something). She is believed to be dead and she is without hope of being rescued from rebels in the country of Timor Leste. Yet, Phantom, whose team had been previously sent in to rescue her and left believing she hadn’t survived a rebel fire fight in the village in which she volunteered, knows he made a mistake by leaving without Kalee and sets out to rescue her, all by himself. So yeah, Kalee is one tough survivor. But she has been hurt in unimaginable ways, which Phantom understands and anticipates as he helps her reacclimatize to life, post-rescue. She is scared. But she doesn’t stop herself from realizing the feelings she has for Phantom are more than having a savior complex for him.
Meanwhile, Phantom managed to piss off his team, his commander and a couple of admirals when he defied orders to rescue Kalee on his own. He will answer for his actions, which he never regretted and as he told anyone who asked, including the admirals, he’d do it all again to save Kalee.
Then there is the danger no one saw coming. Phantom thinks he can handle this on his own and expects to, because his team is upset with him and won’t be around to back him up. He didn’t reckon with Kalee, who isn’t taking any “bleep” from anyone messing with her man.
If you read the previous books in the series, you will have a hard time believing that it is even possible that Phantom is even MORE honorable than his brethren. That’s saying something, because these men are HONORABLE. Trust me, Phantom is going to touch your heart and blow your mind about just how wonderful a man he is. And Kalee...I want to be as kicka$$ as she is, when I grow up.
