Bruce the philosopher par excellance!
Reviewed: 11-18-24
I knew Bruce was a philosopher but I wasn't expecting the level of depth and understanding. A timless book, I also ordered the paperbavk book for my collection. Great interpretation also by narrator, sounds like Bruce! Overall, its a great success!

Story
Bruce Lee is a cultural icon, renowned the world over for his martial arts and film legacy. But Lee was also a deeply philosophical thinker, learning at an early age that martial arts are more than just an exercise in physical discipline - they are an apt metaphor for living a fully realized life. Now, in Be Water, My Friend, Lee’s daughter, Shannon, shares the concepts at the core of his philosophies, showing how they can serve as tools of personal growth and self-actualization.

Beautiful nostalgic experience for Bruce Lee lovers

I love remembering Bruce Lee, he inspired my life so much that I feel I owe him a lot of what I am today. Deeply saddened to remember tha he died and then again Brandon as well. I am also a father of 2 boys and the thought of loosing any of them would just rip me apart. I cannot imagine the grief of this family. May God bless you dear Shannon and your family!

Story
Historians universally agree that Thucydides was the greatest historian who has ever lived, and that his story of the Peloponnesian conflict is a marvel of forensic science and fine literature. That such a triumph of intellectual accomplishment was created at the end of the fifth century B.C. in Greece is, perhaps, not so surprising, given the number of original geniuses we find in that period. But that such an historical work would also be simultaneously acknowledged as a work of great literature and a penetrating ethical evaluation of humanity is one of the miracles of ancient history.

Story
I’ve been in this life for fifty years, been trying to work out its riddle for forty-two, and been keeping diaries of clues to that riddle for the last thirty-five. Notes about successes and failures, joys and sorrows, things that made me marvel, and things that made me laugh out loud. How to be fair. How to have less stress. How to have fun. How to hurt people less. How to get hurt less. How to be a good man. How to have meaning in life. How to be more me. Recently, I worked up the courage to sit down with those diaries.

Story
In the 24 centuries that have passed since the Athenians put Socrates to death, every generation has interpreted the meaning of Plato's work differently. Joseph Uemura guides us through six dialogues in an effort to promote a dialectical quest rather than seek a final resting place. Plato's dialogues treat the big questions that confront any thoughtful person.

Russell Brand wants YOU to join the revolution. We all know the system isn't working. Our governments are corrupt and the opposing parties pointlessly similar. Our culture is filled with vacuity and pap, and we are told there's nothing we can do - "it's just the way things are".

Excelent naration by the man himself
Reviewed: 07-25-18
Absolutely enjoyed every minute of it. Wide range of subjects touched upon, some more sensitive than others. Russell's humorous naration makes listening an absolute delight. He makes great points however for any of his hypothetical solutions to be seriously considered, he should use a more pragmatic approach. Maybe in the future, more "serious" thinkers will aproach more directly the subjects mentioned by Russell and taken more seriously. Looking forward to reading more of Russel's works.

Bertrand Russell's A History of Western Philosophy serves as the perfect introduction to its subject; it remains unchallenged as the greatest account of the history of Western thought. Charting philosophy's course from the pre-Socratics up to the early twentieth century, Russell relates each philosopher and school to their respective historical and cultural contexts, providing erudite commentary throughout his invaluable survey.

Excellent overview of major philosophers
Reviewed: 04-14-18
If you could sum up A History of Western Philosophy in three words, what would they be?
Comprehensive, informative and educational.
What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?
The clear and natural reading of the narator improved the text to be even better understood and assimilated.
Have you listened to any of Jonathan Keeble’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
First time I listen to Jonathan Keeble, but so far he is the best I have heard.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes it was, but of course its not possible due to the length.
Any additional comments?
If you are interested in philosophy including details about the philosophers themselves along with some brief revision of their ideas this book is amazing. If you are new to phiolosphy then this might not be very interesting.
