Great story and narration. I feel as though I was there with Olive. Wingate has a gift

This book takes the reader to a story shared in its own time. Not rushed. It is a story about a people living life their own way. Like other somewhat closed social groups, there are difficult and alternatively poignant aspects to their lives.
Rather than judging the people in this book, just allow it to unfold. Enjoy.

Just anecdotal blah blah. Narration is well done. Tried a few times. Maybe good for you.

Lovely essays on Appalachian life. People plants & animals sharing the same patch. Renkle does it so well. I could not imagine anyone stirring my soul like Susan Griffin and Annie Dillard, but Renkle does it.
This will be an annual read. I bought a paper copy too!

Disappointing use of a credit. If you might benefit from having someone tell you to use caution picking a mate, you should do less cell phone time, and be kind in your disagreements, this book is for you.
Narrator has a nice voice. Of course Oprah has a beautiful voice.
Might be for you, not so much for me.

Capote gives one a snapshot of the young writer’s heart. The book brings one back to the writer not focusing on the magnificent Audrey Hepburn of the movie.

This is a poignant story of making your life work out. It is gloriously and intentionally slow so that the reader/listener can hear those crawdads and feel the water and hear her pencil scratching on paper.
There remains a rugged slow life in the South and Appalachia for people that are not plugged in.
A beautiful listen.
If you can’t hear what Kya hears, try taking a blanket to a park, lie under a shade tree on the earth without snacks.
In my top 20 reads/listens.
