Couldn’t finish
Reviewed: 12-20-24
I’ve been looking for a great series to follow and hoped this was it. The first book was a good story that moved along with lot of action. So, I gave the second book a chance. This one seems like a series of unrelated activities with far too much wasted description (I stayed in through 2/3 of the book, waiting for it all to tie together, but got bored waiting. The poaching stories were cool, but the detailed activities were not really relevant to the main story as far as I could tell). I pretty much blame the editors for letting this convoluted story get out of hand.

After finishing this, I kind of wish Lee had put Reacher on a bus to nowhere once Lee realized he didn’t want to write any more. I so anticipated the new Reacher every year. Not sure I will anymore. Makes me sad.

But when Ballard and her team move in on their suspect, they encounter a baffling web of secrets and legal hurdles. Meanwhile, Ballard’s badge, gun, and ID are stolen.

Story
In 2009, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band performed at the Super Bowl's halftime show. The experience was so exhilarating that Bruce decided to write about it. That's how this extraordinary autobiography began. Over the past seven years, Bruce Springsteen has privately devoted himself to writing the story of his life, bringing to this audio the same honesty, humor, and originality found in his songs.

I almost didn’t get this book because, although I enjoy the Cork O’Connor series, I sometimes think the characters lack depth. This book, however, takes the time to develop the characters and weave a great tale.

Story
In the spring of 1983, massive flooding along the length of the Colorado River confronted a team of engineers at the Glen Canyon Dam with an unprecedented emergency that may have resulted in the most catastrophic dam failure in history. In the midst of this crisis, the decision to launch a small wooden dory named “The Emerald Mile” at the head of the Grand Canyon, just fifteen miles downstream from the Glen Canyon Dam, seemed not just odd, but downright suicidal.

Story
A few years after quitting his job to follow an ill-advised dream of becoming a guide on the Colorado River, Kevin Fedarko was approached by his friend, the National Geographic photographer Pete McBride, with a vision as bold as it was harebrained. Together, they would embark on an end-to-end traverse of the Grand Canyon, a journey that, McBride promised, would be “a walk in the park.” Against his better judgment, Fedarko agreed to the scheme. The ensuing ordeal, which lasted more than a year, revealed a place that was richer, and far more complex, than anything the two men had imagined.
