A New York Times Bestseller
The riveting story of a heroic girl who fights for her belief that water should be for everyone.
Minni lives in the poorest part of Mumbai, where access to water is limited to a few hours a day and the communal taps have long lines. Lately, though, even that access is threatened by severe water shortages and thieves who are stealing this precious commodity—an act that Minni accidentally witnesses one night. Meanwhile, in the high-rise building where she just started to work, she discovers that water streams out of every faucet and there’s even a rooftop swimming pool. What Minni also discovers there is one of the water mafia bosses. Now she must decide whether to expose him and risk her job and maybe her life. How did something as simple as access to water get so complicated?

Historia
Twelve-year-old June Delancey is kicking summer off with a bang. She shaves her head and sets two goals: she will beat her anxiety and be the lion she knows she can be, instead of the mouse everyone sees. And she and her single mama will own their power as fierce, independent females. With the help of Homer Juarez, the poetry-citing soccer star who believes in June even when she doesn’t believe in herself, she starts a secret library garden and hatches a plan to make her dreams come true. But when her anxiety becomes too much, everything begins to fall apart.

But when she goes to the library to return it, she's told that the book never belonged there. Curious, she starts to read the stories: tales of strange incidents in nearby towns, of journal entries chronicling endless, twisting pumpkin vines, birthday parties gone awry, and cursed tarot decks. And at the center of the stories lies a family of witches. And witches, she's told, can look like anyone...

But it is her extraordinary voice that launched her career as a performer, poet, and activist. Here, she shares her unforgettable story of triumph against all odds in this brave and fiercely candid memoir.
No one knew Staceyann's mother was pregnant until a dangerously small baby was born on the floor of her grandmother's house in Jamaica, on Christmas Day.

I love this book!!!!
I loved this book! I listen to it every night when I am trying to fall asleep on repeat and it’s so great. I think that this book really represents that you should not waste water and that there are a lot of people who are less fortunate then you. I think it so inspiring that when Mini is only 12 she makes all of those accomplishments which I am not going to say so I don’t spoil the book but definitely a very very very very very very very huge recommendation. Hope you like this book if you are rereading this!🩷💦💧🚱

AMAZING book
The performance was great it talks about the real thing that happened and it goes off with a happy ending but I just wanna know how he got in trouble or caught by the police. They didn’t add that in, but that is fine. I still love the book and love the though, Fanchers, and I hope that he lives the best cooking life possible, and the author of a best poem, or tap, making life if it was real. The story overall was great.

Loved it!
I loved this amazing story based on factual water shortage in Mumbai. This fictional story is interlocked by amazing character development and beautiful detail.

Water Privilege Revealed
An endearing and vital telling of what many people go through to get water. This story is told thru the eyes of a clever and kind 12 year old who must grow up fast due to unexpected family challenges in Mumbai India. Here in the US most of us are privileged to have water on demand from multiple taps in our homes. The author shares another reality in a compelling and charming way. I love that Minnie, the protagonist, is a poet. Thank you.

Loved it!
As a teacher of middle school students who has been teaching about world cultures for many years, this book is on point! So many wonderful themes about justice, inequity, and courage. The story also offers opportunities to explore Indian culture: Hinduism/Islam, Ganesha, dowry, caste, Raksha Bandhan, roti, the disparity between rich and poor, and most of all the love of family. The voices of the characters are so thoughtful and believable. Other connections around mental health: breathing, affirmations, relying on friends, journaling, poetry- so good!! Bravo Varsha! Narrated perfectly by Reena!

Fabulous
Readers will find themselves somewhere in the book questioning who they are, what their hopes and dreams are and more…
The figurative language and descriptions brought my imagination into full bloom.
I would definitely recommend the book.
