Acerca de esta escucha
In 1999, Emmon Bodfish was murdered in his home in the wealthy enclave of Orinda, California, just east of San Francisco. For the young crime-scene analyst Paul Holes, it quickly became the most bizarre and surprising case of his storied career.
It was immediately clear how Emmon had died: by being hit over the head with a heavy object. What wasn’t clear was who did it and why. Each clue was like a doorway to an expanding labyrinth of leads—leads involving pagan ceremonies, stolen artwork, a mysterious disease, an elusive shoe pattern, entomology, a blue demon, a family inheritance, an enigmatic child, a struggle for identity, and passages written in a secret language throughout two decades of Emmon’s diaries.
No matter how deep Paul went into the tunnels of the mystery, the shape-shifting shadow of Emmon’s antagonist stayed just out of reach. Paul had never faced anything like it. He became obsessed with solving it. For himself and for Emmon.

In 1994, an aspiring young cold-case investigator in California’s East Bay, Paul Holes, puts aside trying to solve the Golden State Killer case as he waits for science to catch up. Paul returns to an old file cabinet at the back of the forensic lab to look for another cold case he can work—something with DNA. He finds one. The 1978 murder of a married mother who went for a morning jog in a nearby park. For his victims, for their families and for the investigators tasked with finding him, the senselessness and brutality of the Golden State Killer's acts were matched only by the powerlessness they felt at failing to uncover his identity. Then, on April 24, 2018, authorities arrested 72-year-old Joseph James DeAngelo at his home in Citrus Heights, Calif., based on DNA evidence linked to the crimes. Amazingly, it seemed, evil finally had a name. Please note: This work contains descriptions of violent crime and sexual assault and may not be suitable for all listeners.

Historia
The most common triggers for homicide are fear, rage, revenge, money, lust, and, more rarely, sheer madness. This isn’t an exact science, of course. Any given murder can have multiple triggers. Sex and revenge seem to be common partners in crime. This book offers my memories of homicide cases that I investigated or oversaw. In each case, I examine the trigger that led to death. I chose this theme for the book because even though the why of a murder case may not be critical in an investigation, it can sometimes lead us to the killer.

Dame Sue Black is an internationally renowned forensic anthropologist and human anatomist. She has lived her life eye to eye with the Grim Reaper, and she writes vividly about it in this book, which is part primer on the basics of identifying human remains, part frank memoir of a woman whose first paying job as a schoolgirl was to apprentice in a butcher shop, and part no-nonsense but deeply humane introduction to the reality of death in our lives. It is a treat for CSI junkies, murder mystery and thriller fans, and anyone seeking a clear-eyed guide to a subject that touches us all.

In this searing classic autobiography, originally published in 1965, Malcolm X, the Muslim leader, firebrand, and Black empowerment activist, tells the extraordinary story of his life and the growth of the Human Rights movement. His fascinating perspective on the lies and limitations of the American dream and the inherent racism in a society that denies its non-White citizens the opportunity to dream, gives extraordinary insight into the most urgent issues of our own time.

It took me a lifetime to have the courage and the clarity to write my memoir. I want to tell the story of the moments - the ups and downs, the triumphs and traumas, the debacles and the dreams - that contributed to the person I am today. This book is composed of my memories, my mishaps, my struggles, my survival, and my songs. Unfiltered. I went deep into my childhood and gave the scared little girl inside of me a big voice. I let the abandoned and ambitious adolescent have her say, and the betrayed and triumphant woman I became tell her side.

Best-selling author Bryan Burrough recently made a shocking discovery: The small town of Temple, Texas, where he had grown up, had harbored a dark secret. One of his high school classmates, Danny Corwin, was a vicious serial killer. In this chilling tale, Burrough raises important questions of whether serial killers can be recognized before they kill or rehabilitated after they do. It is also a story of Texas politics and power that led the good citizens of the town of Temple to enable a demon who was their worst nightmare.

The listener becomes an eyewitness.
An extraordinary non-fiction account of a murder that includes fascinating threads involving Druids, messages coded using symbols associated with runes, the FBI and other law enforcement entities, and a brilliant victim who also happens to be a transgendered mother. The author weaves this account in a manner that quickly transforms the listener into a role as an eyewitness to the events. Highly recommended.

Masterful reenactment of a mystery
The telling of the story by those evolved help bring home the reality of this tragic event.
thank you for putting this together. Not only does it bring into core the troubled life of a transgender female and the life long abuse but why the diagnosed of people on the spectrum is so important, This might have helped a troubled child not feel the only way out was alone in an hotel room.

Riveting; Truth is Stranger Than Fiction
Fascinating and well-presented. Very little melodrama with the voices of those involved providing the details. At no point was I ever bored. I would listen to anything else put out by this group.

An uncommon but beautiful life.
This was a book that made me feel so sorry for the victim(s). The narrator handled the reading with both clinical accuracy and an equal degree of compassion. The take away message for me is that there are countless stories like this mostly from told in our society and we should be thankful of the opportunity to hear this one.

Wow, what a story!
This should be made into a movie! The characters are so intriguing. You immediately care for Emmon and Max and want to heal their pain. The narrative from the detectives and reporters view points, show how much this story impacts everyone involved in this case.

excellent job
I think Emmond would be proud of how his story was told. Paul and team did an excellent job as usual.

As always, Paul Holes delivers
This story is fascinating, engaging, and unfolds in a way I binged through the whole thing. Paul Holes always does excellent work, and I love getting insight to how his brain works in an investigation.

Incredible true story
Paul Holes and Jim Clemente are authentic, victim-
-focused, former law enforcement. This story, and Paul’s incredible detective work (he’s not actually a detective, he’s an analyst) are a rare combination of insight and perseverance. It doesn’t get better than this.
