Acerca de esta escucha

The untold story of the three intelligent and glamorous young women who accompanied their famous fathers to the Yalta Conference in February 1945, and of the conference’s fateful reverberations in the waning days of World War II.

Tensions during the Yalta Conference in February 1945 threatened to tear apart the wartime alliance among Franklin Roosevelt, Winston Churchill, and Joseph Stalin just as victory was close at hand. Catherine Grace Katz uncovers the dramatic story of the three young women who were chosen by their fathers to travel with them to Yalta, each bound by fierce family loyalty, political savvy, and intertwined romances that powerfully colored these crucial days.

Kathleen Harriman was a champion skier, war correspondent, and daughter of U.S. Ambassador to the Soviet Union Averell Harriman. Sarah Churchill, an actress-turned-RAF officer, was devoted to her brilliant father, who depended on her astute political mind. Roosevelt’s only daughter, Anna, chosen instead of her mother Eleanor to accompany the president to Yalta, arrived there as keeper of her father’s most damaging secrets. Situated in the political maelstrom that marked the transition to a post- war world, The Daughters of Yalta is a remarkable story of fathers and daughters whose relationships were tested and strengthened by the history they witnessed and the future they crafted together.

Great!!!

What a amazing story so few people know about. I wonder if this is required reading in every woman’s college and all other high schools.
I couldn’t figure out how to give this 5 stars

Wonderful

Great history review! Well researched and easy listening. I looked forward to hearing more about the three great men of that time as well as their equally amazing daughters.

Very interesting

This is the view of the World War II discussions between Britain, US and Russia but from the point of view of the daughters of the leaders. I did note that the book put Churchill in a great light and Roosevelt in a bad light. But I am getting used to that. I do like putting myself in a character's shoes. How would I have acted if I have been that person. Note that this book is based on actual letters between people so it feels factually proper. Well researched.

Recognizing the daughters of history

I loved listening to this well researched and well written story about the women, the daughters, who supported their great fathers with love and a depth of understanding. This was a story that needed to be told. Thank you, Catherine

Best combination of history and biography

An absolutely perfect combination of my two favorite types of books. I hated and loved to see it end. The history was impeccable and the lives a wonderful addition.

Viewing such an important historical moment through the eyes of these extraordinary women.

In the era of the Yalta conference there were no doubt copious notes about what was discussed and negotiated. The details of the places, people and negotiations between the most powerful world leaders and the role of their daughters was captivating. There were amazing insights into how these leaders attempted to do what was right at the end of WWII. The deceit of Stalin was so evident, as time would demonstrate, lead to Cold War. It was a fascinating read.,

exceptional

I learned so much about a pivotal event in world history that resonates now with the war in Ukraine. The daughters roles and duties were under-appreciated. The friendships and relationships between families were astounding.
