For a thousand dollars, Jude will become the proud owner of a dead man's suit, said to be haunted by a restless spirit. But what UPS delivers to his door in a black heart-shaped box is no imaginary or metaphorical ghost. It's the real thing.

Historia
FBI Agent Erica Blaine has suffered more than most. After narrowly escaping being at the center of a cult sacrifice she’d been tasked with infiltrating, Erica has spent the last few months hitting the bottle, trying to avoid dealing with the trauma of what she experienced and those she couldn’t save. Her ruined hands, always gloved, are an unavoidable reminder of her pain and anguish. As is the voice that won’t allow her a moment of peace.

terrible.
Revisado: 08-13-22
let me just start off by saying Bangor is pronounced BANG-or. there's no "e" in there. narrators learn this please. aside from that in a few other strange pronunciations, the narrator was pretty good.
the story was utter trash. I don't want to spoil anything for anyone that wants to throw their money away, but suffice to say that the nuance one would expect from the King and yellow is completely absent. the characters are one dimensional and the entire story is derivative. parts of it seem like it's being intentionally campy/ironically humorous- playing with tropes related to the mythos but even this misses the mark. at any rate, I'm sure this is somebody else's cup of tea but if you're looking for anything related to Chambers in his work, steer clear of this.

good story. a little heavy on the Christian stuff but I guess that's not surprising even his very public political affiliation.

Guy is about to finish writing his breakthrough online article. He overheard the story by chance in a pub and it’s guaranteed to go viral - all he needs to do is persuade the World’s Unluckiest Man to talk to him. His best friend Larry’s quest for killer clickbait material has led him to a recently appeared shanty town in Glasgow, where he finds some kind of urban voodoo cult. Ex-cop Sam has already come face-to-face with the terrifying force behind both these phenomena, but he’s been trying to put it out of his mind.

Historia
Sam Hunter is a bit of an animal. He's a former Twin Cities cop who lost his badge because of excessive force. Abusive husbands, child molesters, and other lowlifes wound up looking like they'd been mauled by a dog...or a wolf. Now Sam's a low-rent PI in Philadelphia. He takes the kinds of cases no one wants. His clients are usually on the fringes of society. The kind who are prey for all manner of predators - human and otherwise.

could be longer for the price but very well done.
Revisado: 09-29-21
Ray Porter is amazing and Mayberry has an accessable and enjoyable writing style that has enough humor balanced with horror to make these stories really good reads. I only complaint is that all the stories tend to end the same way usually. but it's the same with Robert e Howard so do with that what you will.

a treat
Revisado: 01-23-21
my favorite parts of a story are often the little twists that make them unique. I can often forgive a story's failings if the idea is cunning or fresh enough- but luckily here that's not necessary. love every part of these stories including the authors voice work. can't recommend enough.

Historia
The Cthulhu Mythos is one of the 20th century's most singularly recognizable literary creations. Initially created by H. P. Lovecraft and a group of his amorphous contemporaries (the so-called "Lovecraft Circle"), The Cthulhu Mythos story cycle has taken on a convoluted, cyclopean life of its own. Some of the most prodigious writers of the 20th century, and some of the most astounding writers of the 21st century have planted their seeds in this fertile soil. The Book of Cthulhu harvests the weirdest and most corpulent crop of these modern mythos tales.

great stories
Revisado: 12-03-20
I really enjoyed all of these tales. I'd read a few before and it was great hearing them. the only gripe I had was the narration of Shoggoths in Bloom. As a Mainer, that guy clearly learned how to do our accent from Murder She Wrote...which is to say- terribly. Set my teeth on edge!
