Historia
Chad shares the highs, the lows, and everything in between during his career as a paramedic, as well as the personal highs and lows. His stories highlight the dance between being fine, and burning out, as well as how the system fails to serve those who have dedicated their lives and careers to serving others.

I liked how the book was both personal and informative. I came for the call stories, but was reeled in by the personal anecdotes.
I enjoyed the narrator as well.
A very good listen!

Historia
During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, one renowned scientist, in his famous bowtie, appeared daily on major news networks such as MSNBC, NPR, the BBC, and others. Dr. Peter J. Hotez often went without sleep, working around the clock to develop a nonprofit COVID-19 vaccine and to keep the public informed. During that time, he was one of the most trusted voices on the pandemic and was even nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize for his selfless work. He also became one of the main targets of anti-science rhetoric that gained traction through conservative news media.

I was browsing for a new listen and didn't quite know what I was in the mood for, only that it needed to be some kind of non-fiction. This brought me to the Best Seller section, where the book "The Real Anthony Fauci" was near the top.
Reading the reviews of that book made me lose all hope in humanity, and I felt a desperate need for reassurance that there are still people on this earth that has not lost their minds.
This book did it. The author does a great job of remaining non-political while investigating what led us to the current circumstances.
The only drawback was some repetetiveness, but as a whole I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

With poignant insight and humor, Frank Vertosick, Jr., MD, describes some of the greatest challenges of his career, including a six-week-old infant with a tumor in her brain, a young man struck down in his prime by paraplegia, and a minister with a .22-caliber bullet lodged in his skull. Told through intimate portraits of Vertosick's patients and unsparing-yet-fascinatingly detailed descriptions of surgical procedures, When the Air Hits Your Brain illuminates both the mysteries of the mind and the realities of the operating room.

I enjoy these type of stories, where a person describes their experiences in a high-stress occupation. I enjoyed the introspective parts as well.

I enjoyed this book very much.
The narration was perfect.
The story was engaging and interesting. And the personal stories gave insight into the minds and lives of the rescuer and sometimes the rescuee.
I highly recommend it!

On the evening of July 27, 1985, five hikers made a fateful choice to climb Yosemite's fabled Half Dome, even as the sky darkened and thunder rolled. By night's end, two would be dead from a lightning strike, three gravely wounded, and desperate EMTs would be overseeing a harrowing midnight helicopter rescue.

I absolutely loved this book! Not ONE dull moment. I never wanted it to end.
The author did such a fine job in relaying the thoughts, feelings and emotional state of every person involved that I really felt like I was there, observing everything while it transpired.
On one hand, this is a brutal tale of man against nature. But it's also a moving glimpse into the lives of a few men, who experience friendship, heartaches and fierce of determination.
I would highly recommend this book.

Jumps right into the action
Revisado: 08-18-22
I bought this audiobook because it is narrated by Kevin Pierce.
There is hardly a true crime book available on Audible with Kevin Pierce as the narrator that I haven't listened to. Most of them more than once.
This book's author is new to me, so I didn't know what to expect. I enjoyed the book. I used my credit card to pay for it, instead of a credit, because it is much shorter than my standard credit purchases.
That being said, I think that the book ideally could have been quite a bit longer, because each story jumped right into the action with hardly any intro, if any at all. It's probably part of this author's style, and it's fine, but I like to get to know the characters a little bit before everything happens all at once.
But as it is, I do think my money was well spent!
I would have

Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Panic is a legendary game played by graduating seniors in the middle-of-nowhere town of Carp, where the stakes are high and the payoff is even higher: After a series of challenges ranging from sleeping in a haunted house to running across a highway blindfolded, one winner takes home a cash prize in the tens of thousands at the end of the summer. Participating players are sworn to secrecy, which means little is known of Panic’s history. Until now.

Dark and entertaining
Revisado: 06-03-21
I was browsing through Audible, not sure what I wanted to listen to next. Bought two different audiobooks, and started to listen to both, but they didn't match my mood.
Then I remembered that the originals are free, so I read the descriptions of a few before I decided on Panic. It turned out to be a great listen!
I like American high school dramas for some reason. And the darker, the better. This was right up my alley.

The stories totally make up for the bad editing
Revisado: 04-12-21
I loved this collection (which I understand is the second) so much, I will immediately purchase the first one!
Be warned: There is no pause between stories AT ALL! The title of a story often sounds like the last word in the sentence being spoken.
You will not have much problems dealing with the poor editing if you always pay close attention whilst listening. If you drift off for a second though, you will be well into the next story without knowing the last one even ended.
Even though I felt like the editing left much to be desired, I felt like the stories made up for it, and then some.
All in all, I enjoyed this book immensely!
