Historia
Patrick, or Gay Uncle Patrick (GUP, for short), has always loved his niece, Maisie, and nephew, Grant. That is, he loves spending time with them when they come out to Palm Springs for weeklong visits, or when he heads home to Connecticut for the holidays. But in terms of caretaking and relating to two children, no matter how adorable, Patrick is, honestly, overwhelmed. So when tragedy strikes and Maisie and Grant lose their mother and Patrick's brother has a health crisis of his own, Patrick finds himself suddenly taking on the role of primary guardian.

Unexpectedly Delightful!
Revisado: 07-09-22
My book club chose this book and I'm so glad they did. I wasn't expecting a book that was billed as a comedy to have such hard hitting topics underneath the surface.
Grief is a topic that is still so taboo, yet it effects everyone at some point in their lives and to view it from several different points of view, both old buried grief and fresh grief, and from adult and kid perspectives was wonderful.
I loved this book for it's humor and it's wonderful perspectives on life, and death and moving forward.

Historia
Seventeen-year-old Farrah Turner is one of two Black girls in her country club community, and the only one with Black parents. Her best friend, Cherish Whitman, adopted by a white, wealthy family, is something Farrah likes to call WGS—White Girl Spoiled. With Brianne and Jerry Whitman as parents, Cherish is given the kind of adoration and coddling that even upper-class Black parents can’t seem to afford—and it creates a dissonance in her best friend that Farrah can exploit.

This book had some good intentions but was poorly executed. The narrator also sounded like she was reading slam poetry.

Loved it!

I love the depth of the characters that the author has created. Such a simple concept for a story but there are so many layers and interesting characters thrown in that the story just blooms. I wasn't even finished listening before I was recommending it to my friends.

Historia
Alice Wright marries handsome American Bennett Van Cleve hoping to escape her stifling life in England. But small-town Kentucky quickly proves equally claustrophobic, especially living alongside her overbearing father-in-law. So, when a call goes out for a team of women to deliver books as part of Eleanor Roosevelt’s new traveling library, Alice signs on enthusiastically. The leader, and soon Alice's greatest ally, is Margery, a smart-talking, self-sufficient woman who's never asked a man's permission for anything.

Tiffy and Leon share an apartment. Tiffy and Leon have never met. After a bad breakup, Tiffy Moore needs a place to live. Fast. And cheap. But the apartments in her budget have her wondering if astonishingly colored mold on the walls counts as art. Desperation makes her open minded, so she answers an ad for a flatshare. Leon, a night shift worker, will take the apartment during the day, and Tiffy can have it nights and weekends. He'll only ever be there when she's at the office. In fact, they'll never even have to meet.

I was looking for a light romantic story but was pleasantly surprised by the depth of the characters and the serious subjects that were touched on. This book made me laugh and cry and a little sad after it was finished.

What a passionate story about love and heartbreak and finding oneself! I wasn't sure what to expect in this story after loving Amy Snow but this story struck a chord with me and resonated to the end.
