Disappointing

If your looking for a historical novel about indigenous women who went missing on a remote Canadian highway as I was, this is not it. Found the story hard to believe mostly because of poor character development and don’t believe much was mentioned about First Nation people at all. Not sure what genre the author was aiming for: Romance? Crime? Outdoor Adventure? I think it missed the mark on all three.

Story moved along well you had trouble imagining what would happen next. I felt that the characters weren't well developed

Came as a bit of a surprise but in afterthought don't see how it could have ended any different.

Which character – as performed by Ray Porter – was your favorite?

Difficult. Again, going back to my other comment I didn't feel that the characters were well developed.

Did The Second Life of Nick Mason inspire you to do anything?

No

If fleshed out a bit more the story might have been more credible, the potential was there but not reached.

Where does The Oregon Trail rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Close to the top. I live on what used to be the Oregon Trail in Boise. There's not only history here but wonderful detail on everything that it took to make this challenging trip 150 years ago.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Well, Rinker and Nick.

What three words best describe Rinker Buck’s performance?

I was a bit disappointed in the author as narrator I wish he had passed the job on on to a more experienced reader. But having said that, this is an audiobook that I'll listen to again.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Just about did.

If every history book was written with this style and humor I'd know a lot more.

Yes, overall, enjoyed the story but was disappointed that the loose ends were never tied up and, in fact, led into another title.

The narration.

Might not if they told me upfront that it was part of a serial

Might shy away from Patterson after this, very disappointed that even though they major plots were satisfied there were still unresolved narratives.

Flawless non-fiction

What did you love best about Flawless?

Excellent reporting. Obviously a lot of hard work by the author to choose the puzzle pieces that fit and put forth a credible narrative.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Leonardo, what a smooth fella; other people have compared this heist to Ocean's Eleven, if so, Clooney would play him.

Which character – as performed by Don Hagen – was your favorite?

No characters were dramatized.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

The close to perfect crime.

I am a fan of true crime and this is one of the best that I've read or listened to.

Depended on the friend, I might have reservations.

Shorten it, too many unnecessary elements. Ending could be made more believable

This book sunk the hook pretty quickly and I like that but it could have moved along at a brisker pace. The ending was difficult to swallow.

One of the Better Ones

I listened to this on the strength of someone recommending Bankok 8 which I listened to later. I found this to be superior and thoroghly enjoyed both. If you ever thought of going to Thailand this is a must. Themes helped put our western morality judgments in perspective. The narration is great.

Not Spencer

I was disappointed in this Parker novel. After enjoying the Spencer series I expected more. I felt that the characters were poorly developed (did the recovering alcoholic have any problem with the tall scotch and soda he was sipping?) and the ending contrived.

Silva's Consistant

Daniel Silva wraps action advenure, mystery and recent history into an entertaining listen. His Israeli Mossad characters expose the horror of the Holocaust using fictional modern day events. The narration is reserved and sets an excellent tone for the theme.

Where are you Harry?

I'm a big fan of Michael Connely but I didn't think that this held up as well as his Harry Bosch series. I may have missed something but I never understood why the bad guy hated the hero so much. Also, the ending was too convenient.
