Reminder of the many points he made

Good story, researched well

The story may have been inspired by Japanese legends, and in the end it doesn’t matter how accurately they were depicted. The author has a way of pulling you into it and making it feel personal. The story was very well written and rich with detail.

Story was great, narrator took some time to get used to

The new narrator started out a little rough. Her words were really clipped sounding at the beginning and she was a little slow. I sped up the narration to 1.1, but after a while I got used to it, and she seemed to relax a little as she told the story. The prior narrator was good but I thought her accent was a little to southern. The new narrator has the similar pitch, but she has a midwestern accent, which is more believable in my opinion. I’m from Oklahoma, and spent a lot of time in Texas. Anyway, the book was a great story. If there’s only one criticism that I have is, I really didn’t like the summaries in the the Caldonia voice at the beginning of each chapter. It did help me to find my place if I accidentally lost it because I fell asleep I often read before I go to bed, so I guess there was one plus side, but if I were the authors, I’d leave this out next time it’s not necessary, and it kinda reduces the enjoyment of a marathon reader like me. I’m looking forward to the next book. The main characters are likable sometimes funny and interesting. They have a lot of room to create new characters and interesting situations.

Great storytelling

The story was well done and well narrated. I enjoyed it. The setting in Harlow Bay was really good. And the variety characters was really great. I might read it again sometime.

Wonderful Story!

I’m a big fan of historical based novels and this one was beautifully written. She provided enough details so that the reader would have an understanding of the political, cultural and culture of the era. Very well researched and satisfying to read.

marathon listening worthy

Great book good narrator. The only thing that I didn’t like that much was the footnote handling. The narrator had a great rhythm and it was a shame to lose it. Also there was one loose end I wished he would have solved with the translation of Japanese characters written on a paper that he folded and stuck in his pocket

Surprisingly Good

The plot has many twists and turns, but it was a great book, I thought the author characterized Victorian era attitudes well. The narrators were also good.
