This audiobook wasn’t really as phenomenal as a five star review would suggest, but I did like it and there’s nothing really wrong with it. It’s funny, it has plenty of action. The author went a different direction with the dolphins than I feel like most authors would’ve gone, as most people paint them as intelligent and benevolent creatures who rescue humans stranded at sea. There’s a satisfying twist at the end which didn’t feel wholly unpredictable. The most satisfying part of this book to me was that Charlie’s relationship with his cats is real. I’m glad they came back to live with him in the end (Hush, silly human.)

Historia
Zoey Ashe wakes up every day feeling like she’s trying to steer a battleship while tied to the propeller. The twenty-three-year-old heiress to a criminal empire is navigating a futuristic world of high-tech liars and cutthroats, forced to learn the rules of a devious game she never asked to play. Now she’s facing a crisis that is both bigger and stranger than all that came before: The gleaming new city of Tabula Ra$a is hosting its massive annual music festival, which every year precedes the equally massive annual drunken riot.

This is a good book. A good sequel to the first two. Some people on Goodreads mention the dude humor as a drawback, or how the author writes a female character, but I was familiar with the author’s writing and expected what I got with this. I still enjoy these books, and all of Jason Pargin stuff, it’s a great escape from my life with the humor and the outrageousness of everything when times are stressful.
My only describe with the performance of this book was the accent that reader gave the character of mega boss Alonzo. He’s a black dude and it’s jarring to hear him portrayed with a kind of Brooklynish mobster type accent.

Not my fav, but the basic story is there
Revisado: 11-06-23
This version is missing the rhyming that I have come to expect from what I guess is the American version. Where the wolf says, “let me in,” and the pigs say “not by the hair of my chinny-chin-chin.” This version emphasizes listening to the mother and what the mother told them and laziness, but I’m ok with just the lessons about choosing the materials wisely. Maybe the first pig wasn’t lazy. Maybe be was in a hurry to be done and wanted speed over efficiency, so he chose the first passable thing that they came across :).

Historia
Written at the request of Charles Dickens, North and South is a book about rebellion that poses fundamental questions about the nature of social authority and obedience. Gaskell expertly blends individual feeling with social concern and her heroine, Margaret Hale, is one of the most original creations of Victorian literature. When Margaret Hale's father leaves the Church in a crisis of conscience she is forced to leave her comfortable home in the tranquil countryside of Hampshire....

Scratched an itch
Revisado: 11-18-22
I had been wanting to listen to another Victorian romance novel—one that I had not read before and not Austen as I typically reach for her. I liked the movie/series of the same novel and had been meaning to read this one for some time. The narration was good, the different voices and personalities were all done well. I appreciated the telling of this story even though I knew how things would end. It was still delightful and I wished there was more story at the end.

I like the story. I loved the short Disney animation as a child, so there is a nostalgic appeal for me. Great performance.

For centuries, mystical creatures of all description were gathered to a hidden refuge called Fablehaven to prevent their extinction. Speed it up to x1.2
Revisado: 01-26-21
The performance and listen are more tolerable if you speed it up on the audible app to 1.2x the normal speed. Still I think the inflection of the narrator and some things are a bit off. I really tried and I listened to it the whole way through, but I never did get used to the narrator. It’s tolerable at 1.2x, but still awkward narration. There were several times that I wished I was reading it.

Now Kaye can't see or speak to Roiben unless she can find the one thing she knows doesn't exist: a faerie who can tell a lie. Great story for younger audience but still amazing
Revisado: 01-23-20
Unhelpful blurb: Roiben should marry Kaye. There, I said it. After reading the folk of the air series and this, I know they should be bound together forever with a faerie marriage. He is such a badass, but he is so waywardly wrong when making decisions about or for Kaye instead of with her.
Review: This book carried on the story with the characters in tithe. I super-duper appreciate that because I fell in love with Kaye and Roiben and wanted to see their story play out. I love that the female lead is strong and surprising. And even though she makes her own blunders and embarrassing mistakes, she fights for her ideals and the people she loves, usually with great personal risk. She knows how to take her idiot faerie boyfriend, who loves and treasures her but thinks he should hide her away or put her on a shelf to protect her. Her own personal development is interesting, as she seems to feel insignificant and intimidated by the palace and it’s servants in the beginning. She later learns to have confidence in herself and who she is throughout her journey in this book.
I loved the small story detail of the mouse-tail rug, and how the king put it in his bedroom:). It’s just what I would do if someone made me a rug of mice-tails.

Loved it
Revisado: 01-10-20
Great book with dark overtones, a little adult language, and skillful depictions of amazing characters that the tween to early teen crowd should appreciate. Even though in some places, it did feel like a middle grades book, the story itself has merit and the characters are fun to know.
