This transcendent story follows four college friends who move to New York City, buoyed by ambition: Willem, an aspiring actor; JB, an artist; Malcolm, an architect; and, at the center, Jude, a withdrawn, brilliant attorney haunted by an unspeakable past. Through decades of shared and separate lives, Jude’s suffering - and its impact on those who love him - raises questions about the limits of human endurance, the possibility for redemption, and the meaning of friendship.

Don't miss out on this one.
Revisado: 01-24-17
Years ago I would take time to write a review for almost every. single. audible. book I would listen to, because that's just what you did. Take the time. These days however, I just don't have the time. Heck. I'm lucky to find time to get a shower before I head off to work.
That said, I must warn you about Amy Snow. I say WARN simply because this one caught me off guard. It warmed my heart in a way I haven't felt in a truly long time. It quietly swept in and kept hold of my attention to the point where I was sitting in my garage after a long days work, still listening to it even though I knew someone in the house had dinner on the table. It was that captivating. So much so, that I plan to listen to it straight away (as soon as I finish Florence Grace...that I'm listening to currently).
Do not miss out on this one. It's well worth your time. You will not be disappointed. :)

Historia
When a beautiful woman claiming to be a ghost from 1912 appears in Nick Marshal's new office and begs for help in solving her murder, he's intrigued enough to consider her plea. A scandal that rocked Hollywood almost destroyed his law practice, so taking on a client who insists she's dead seems a good way to refresh his career. The more history he uncovers, the deeper he falls for the ghost.

Meh. I didn't care for it.
Revisado: 12-17-16
Here's a few points on my thoughts for this book.
1. The narration. She did a "fine" job but considering the characters were in their twenties you'd never know from her voice. Clearly, the narrator is much older and I kept having to remind myself that Abby was 20-something rather than in her sixties--which is what it sounded like. Sigh. Otherwise, she was fine, but better suited for an older characters.
2. Character development was severely lacking. I couldn't understand why these two could fall in love after one afternoon together.
3. (Spoiler) how in the world did the time traveling thing work exactly? I never could quite wrap my mind around it and I reconciled that it must be Disney magic.
Overall the book was mediocre, but it might be what others enjoy. It just wasn't for me. I thought it was just meh.

did not enjoy.
Revisado: 09-28-15
I know everyone is seemingly in love with this book, but I just couldn't love it. in fact, I didn't enjoy it AT ALL. I thought it was gloomy and depressing. it's been more than a month since I've listened to this book, and i'd hoped my feelings would change and soften towards it, but nope -- not the case. I still find myself cringing whenever I see its cover in my iPhone. I just did not find it exciting or interesting. and it didn't really have some big light bulb moment, either.
it was dull. I would not recommend this book.

Revisado: 09-28-15
it was sad to let these characters go, and for that reason, I will definitely listen to this series again in a year or two. the narration of Jennifer's fabulously written book, was spot on, and made the entire book so incredible, that you could barely stop listening to talk to people. my family would text me to get my attention. lol it was just so fantastic!
this entire series was captivating. well worth a credit, or even two.

great finish to a lovely series!
Revisado: 09-28-15
this was a great finish to a lovely series. if you're a Proby fan then you'll enjoy this entire seattle series. they're easy to listen to but the nice thing is that each books keeps the previous books' characters in them so you get to "visit" with everyone in each novel. I finished this entire series in about two weeks and was sad to see it end.
while they were excellent listens, I don't know if I would have used a full credit on each installment. I was lucky enough to snag these in one of audible's great sales.

Historia
Captain Sir Sheridan Drake is no knight in shining armor, even if he happens to be famous for his heroism. An exiled princess with revolutionary ideas is just a convenient opportunity to get himself out of debt. Princess Olympia isn't precisely fairy-tale royalty herself; she's plump and a little shy, and desperate to do something of importance in the world. But though their meeting begins with her hopeless hero worship, a harrowing journey to the bleak edge of the world will transform them both.

i couldn't turn this book off, and wanted to listen to it straight through. I finished it in a few days amid laundry, work and car rides. it was just so wonderful, I couldn't get enough.
another reviewer said that Laura's books are an "automatic download" for her, and i'm really at that place, too. there's no need to read the summary or even skim the reviews, because her writing is just top notch. the characters are so intricate and detailed, that you just feel like they're family.
this is my new kinsale favorite. you will not be disappointed. well worth a credit.

a wake up call for marriages everywhere.
Revisado: 07-04-15
i have been married for over 21 years and it's a good marriage. a really good marriage. i know, i'm lucky. not everyone is quite as lucky, i realize. if that is you, or you know someone who's in a relationship that's either on the rocks, or stuck in a spot that's unhealthy, or better yet, a relationship where the love has just dwindled. no affairs. nothing like that. the love is just gone. poof.
then read this book.
it's not a self-help book. i actually hate self-help stuff. lol but this book could easily be touted as such, and rightly so. when alice faints during spin class, falling and hitting her head on her bike, and wakes up in the hospital having forgotten the last ten years of her life... well, she quickly realizes she needs to put it back together again. it's in that putting it back together where we learn what she's really made of and how hard she works to set things to rights. i loved being along for the ride (pun intended) and i've recommended this book to so many i've lost count. it's a heart-warming tale of a girl who wants to win back her man the only way she knows how... losing her memory and starting all over again. best book i read last year. by far. -laurie eller, the kentucky bluegrass

sigh. only more of the same.
Revisado: 07-04-15
i think there's a time in which a series needs to be closed and put up for good. this is that series. i know these characters might have become family by this point, since we have gotten to know SO many of them now. the thing is, the stories are all blending together into one big On Dublin Street book.
i can't even tell you who is who and what story belongs to what couple, it's that muddled in my brain. i was SO looking forward to this book, too, but after about two hours in i was finding myself thinking about my grocery list as it was playing, which RARELY happens when i have a good book in my ears. i was bored. completely bored, even by the sex scenes. ugh. i'm so sad to write this review, but i would really skip this one, and maybe listen to Dublin again, because that was the best. no question. -laurie eller, the kentucky bluegrass

Historia
Hardy's first major literary success, here brought to life by narrator Nathaniel Parker, is the story of the independent and spirited Bathsheba Everdene, who inherits her uncle's farm, the largest estate in the area. She surprises the villagers of Weatherbury by deciding to run it herself. Attracted to this bold young woman are three suitors all vying for her affections. They include the lonely gentleman-farmer Boldwood, the young and handsome but inconsiderate Sergeant Troy and the faithful shepherd Gabriel Oak.

EXCELLENT, and the movie was too!
Revisado: 07-04-15
when i saw the movie trailer for this book, i decided to listen to it since books are always so much better than movies, and there's always missing details that make movie-watching even harder. (hello, harry potter series) this seemed to be the best narration by looking at the reviews, and i must say, it was top notch!
the story is sweet and simple, yet complex given the time in which it took place. bathsheba everdene has no money and then a rich uncle dies, leaving her his farm in which she ends up running--on her own. there's several men who're interested in her as their wife, but she will have none of that, because she considers herself to be too strong-willed and too difficult to tame. excellent stuff!
this is one i'll be listening to again, it's just so well-written. i felt like i was right there, a fly on the wall. worth a credit, no doubt. -laurie eller, the kentucky bluegrass
PS: the movie did this novel justice, keeping pretty close to the story line, which was surprising. the characters in the book were given faces by the movie, which seldom happens so beautifully. watch it. good stuff.
