Historia
In 2016, Amy Tan grew overwhelmed by the state of the world: Hatred and misinformation became a daily presence on social media, and the country felt more divisive than ever. In search of peace, Tan turned toward the natural world just beyond her window and, specifically, the birds visiting her yard. But what began as an attempt to find solace turned into something far greater—an opportunity to savor quiet moments during a volatile time, connect to nature in a meaningful way, and imagine the intricate lives of the birds she admired.

A Most Enthusiastic Backyard Birder and a very fun listen
Revisado: 12-21-24
Being a bacyard birder myself, I can relate to and fully appreciate Amy's excitement as she so fully enjoys her avian friends. You simply never know what you'll see next. Told with a pleasant voice, she describes in a witty and fun way her many experiences while enjoying the natural world without going any further than her own backyard. I didn't want it to end.

I got far more than my money's worth
Revisado: 10-13-22
Within the one hundred and forty some titles in my Audible library, this one is definitely in the top three! Both very well written and equally well narrated. Though I can't help but quibble about the use of the bomb, I still believe that Harry Truman was a great man.

Historia
From colonial times into the 20th century, our laws and court cases ignored atheism, assuming that all good Americans were religious. Only in the 20th century, with the passage of laws allowing for conscientious objection to war, did nonbelief enter debates about religious liberty. Still, today every one of the 20 states has God written into its constitution. God is everywhere in American public life. R. Laurence Moore and Isaac Kramnick explore both God's omnipresence and the dramatic rise in nonbelievers that has led to an "atheist awakening" intent on holding the country to its secular principles.

Atheism Shall NOT be a Pejorative Term ...
Revisado: 10-27-18
This book is a comprehensive examination of the hsitory of the oft persecution of atheists, agnostics and others that don't believe in a supreme being having created the universe or that has any direction in the lives of sentient beings.
As a non believer myself, I take comfort in knowing that I'm not alone in this regard and that more people are beginning to live their lives based on logic and reason rather than myth and superstition.
Having read many books on the subject, I can say that this book is very well researched and very well narrated.
I highly recommend this book to both non believers and BELEIVERS alike.

Historia
Alabama endured warfare, slave trading, squatting, and speculating on its path to becoming America’s 22nd state, and Daniel S. Dupre brings its captivating frontier history to life in Alabama's Frontiers and the Rise of the Old South. Dupre’s vivid narrative begins when Hernando de Soto first led hundreds of armed Europeans into the region during the fall of 1540. Although this early invasion was defeated, Spain, France, and England would each vie for control over the area’s natural resources.

Interesting, but...
Revisado: 09-21-18
The substance of this book is quite interesting, but I feel badly for the author. Why? Because the narration is monosyllabic and becomes tiresom rather quickly.

Historia
The final and most personal work from Pulitzer Prize - winning author and historian Will Durant - discovered 32 years after his death - is a message of insight for everyone who has sought meaning in life or the council of a wise friend in navigating life's journey. From 1968 to 1978, Will Durant made four public allusions to the existence of Fallen Leaves. One, in 1975, hinted at its contents: "a not very serious book that answers the questions of what I think about government, life, death, and God."

If only we would live as herein prescribed ...
Revisado: 02-24-18
This is an excellent book. Mr. Durant lived during a time little different than any other. Having also written extensively about the history of civilisation in another series of books, he was very well positioned to tell how life has been and should be lived. His writing will cause you to be reminded of mistakes you and others have made but hey, the world turns and will for a very long time. This is a very good listen/read. The world would be a better place if a majority of it's inhabitants could learn from it(this book).

No, I hadn't. I also thought I knew most of the basics of this physics, astronomy and other natural sciences stuff. I didn't. This is a very well written and narrated book. A fun listen! Particularly for the price.
