I have read this author before and usually enjoy her stuff. Along with reading ALL of the glowing reviews and was excited for this listen. After 13 chapters of absolutely no chemistry and the female trying to play hard to get at one weird point and then just "oh take me" the next I had to return. I skipped through the majority of that and missed nothing. The female was also supposed to be some strong independent intelligent bright future lady. The way she acts and lets people treat her and just talks in general she seems like the complete opposite. I am on a roll of one crappy book after another right now from reading and believing great reviews and this was definitely one of them.

The reviews made this seem like it would be such a great story. But there was no chemistry just history with the leads. The female, Everyly, is a sports psychologist but cannot work through her own mental problems. She is supposed to be helping the male, Hawk, but they are just hanging out and he is doing analyzing her. She leaves for 10 years with no contact and it is for no clear reason especially since they had been "so close" before. I could not finish. Waste of a credit.

The storyline started off pretty decent. Though the male narration was horrible from the beginning. He has a TERRIBLE fake southern accent and his pace is kinda jaunty. By chapter 8 the main characters commentary to each other was I guess the best thing to say are like southern cliche"s. I had to quit and return by chapter 8. All of the previous got unbearable. Please author never use this guy for a souther accent. Unfortunately, I see that she has for more books in this series.

AUTHORS STOP REPEATING THE WHY WE CAN"T BE

I don"t know if authors are just trying to take up space or actually forget that they have already told us a million times why in the book for example the couple "can"t be together". It is maddening!!! This is a good story. But I am having a hard time finishing because it is every other breath they are either speaking they can"t be together or each inner monologue we can"t be together. So many authors do this. Please proofread your stuff. We have been reading the book. We know they think they can"t be together.

I read the reviews and was excited to listen. After the first 5 chapters I wanted to return it but can"t because of Audible"s STUPID return policies. There is nothing likable about Amber. There is no chemistry in the main couple. It is just 2 people who like to screw anyone willing and they screw each other the first day. The author constantly reminds us how each of the main"s only screw a person once. But now Quinn continuously wants to screw Amber again. But she is playing hard to get like her vagina is gold. Also, the author wants us to believe the female lead is so strong. But she has "seperation issues" for no real adult reason and won"t let Quinn leave her to go get help for their predicament they get in. SUCH A WASTE OF MONEY AND TIME

The female is never likable. It"s not just her mental illness that makes her personality the way it is. She is just unlikable. I read the reviews which were great and listened to the sample and decided to give it a shot. It sucks that I didn"t get this on a credit since now audible will not refund money anymore. There are not all sorts of twists and turns This is not a captivating story. It is so many hours of unnecessary dribble of a very unlikable chic who can"t get over the loss of her loved one as a teen so she decides to be even more grouchy to people after returning home 8 years later. Then have to listen to how Keeton is still so interested in her even though she is unappealing rude to him. No guy who doesn"t have mental health issues of his own would put a 1/4 of the interest in a person who treated him like she does. Huge waste of time and money.

This is a very original and gripping story. That being said I feel I should warn about all of the master/sub that if your like me you can"t stand and it is SO MUCH!!! I read a lot of reviews and did not see anything about it. I don"t understand the appeal so it made me have to skip quite a bit.

If I had listened to this book first I would not have listened to any more in the series. But I listened to the 2nd book first. Which is worlds better. Both have too much repetitive inner monologue. In this one the heroine is so annoyingly hung up on her ex relationship from over a year ago. She will not shut up about it. There could easily be 2 hours taken off with not as much repetitive and useless reference of the ex. Please authors re-read your work and stop overusing the same lines.

Instalove and awful female narrator

This is a short book so you know the love part happens quickly. But I have seen it done much better than this one. Where they have more than 5 sentences and are inseparable. Also, there is a real threat to the heroine. But the author keeps trying to throw in how dangerous the hero himself and his biker club is. But they aren"t doing anything illegal or evil. They are trying to be vigilantes. So the continuous "he"s dark and could ruin me" repetitive commentary is dumb and useless. They are not a typical "1% outlaw club". I also have got to remember how I hate Stephanie Rose"s voice every time I hear it. She sounds like a stuck-up princess you can"t stand no matter what the character she is trying to portray.

Rock Engle should not be reading romance. The female narrator was good. A slow burn can be really good. But this one took 9.5 hours of repetitive "why we shouldn"t" before finally getting together. Then the female was still obnoxious with her secret. Then the epilogue could have been good but it was just a rushed afterthought.
