Historia
When Inspector Ben Ross is called to Newgate Prison by a man condemned to die by the hangman's noose, he isn't expecting to give any credence to the man's testimony. But the account of a murder he witnessed over 17 years ago is so utterly believable that Ben can't help wondering if what he's heard is true. It's too late to save the man's life, but it's not too late to investigate a murder that has gone undetected for all these years.

Grace Branches Out
Revisado: 05-31-24
This one is so much fun. When Grace decides to purchase space for a cafe, Phuti is all in. He has it cleaned, painted and furnished. But even easy-going Phuti is concerned with her choice of a chef and Grace's tendency to be hands-off in the running of the cafe. Meanwhile Mr. J.L.B. Matekoni is facing lean times at Tlokweng Road Motors and has to lay Charlie off due to lack of funds. This hits Precious hard and she is determined to find a solution. The twists and turns are a delight to listen to as the ladies navigate their difficulties . . . with a little help from their friend at the Orphan Farm.

Football (Soccer) and the Tiny White Van
Revisado: 05-29-24
Once again we journey with Mma Ramotswe as she endeavors to solve problems with sensitivity and ingenuity. Her tiny white van is acting up again, and she wants it to be fixed . . . but Mr. J.L.B Matekoni, her husband says the little van is past repair. There are few things that Precious insists upon . . . but keeping her tiny white van, which she has learned to love, is one of them. Yet she's afraid Mr. J.L. B Matekoni will sell it without her knowledge. The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency is presented with a case involving the local soccer team, which is puzzling to say the least. The team had been on a winning streak for a good while, now it seems as though they can only lose. I laugh each time I hear about the ladies who are traditionally built (of which I am one) and about the two ladies' choice of tea. Red Bush always for Mama Ramotswe. Sit back and relax and give this excellent tale a listen.

Grace and Phuti Get Married :)
Revisado: 05-29-24
As Grace searches for the perfect shoes for her wedding, the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency is busy with a case of a farmer who is experiencing a big dilemma. Someone is killing his cows, one by one. As we ride along in the farm community, we can feel the peacefulness. As Precious remineses about her father, Obed Ramotswe (who is late) and his cattle, we can taste the bittersweetness of both loving such a great man and now living without him. It is quite ingenious how Precious finally gets to the bottom of the issue of the cows being killed. And the big tent wedding of Grace and Phuti is the culmination of a great story.

Historia
Precious Ramotswe, Botswana's premier lady detective, is a little short on help. The codirector of the agency, Grace Makutsi, is busy with her own case, her client none other than their erstwhile assistant, Mr. Polopetsi, who has unwittingly involved himself in a pyramid scheme. The agency's other assistant, Charlie, may also need more help than he can offer, as he is newly embroiled in a romance with a glamorous woman about whom the others have their doubts.

A Pyramid Scheme and A Strange Endeavor
Revisado: 05-29-24
The two ladies are busy again. :). Their old friend,Mr. Polopetsi has gotten himself into some hot water when he has joined a scheme which offers investors 25% return on their investments. And a lady from Canada has asked for help finding her childhood home in Botswana and her nursemaid from 30 years earlier. These two cases take lots of twists and turns as the ladies investigate and consider what steps to take next. Great addition to the series!

Phuti has always been concerned with quality and comfort, but this new firm seems interested only in profits. More than One Way to Skin a Cat :)
Revisado: 05-28-24
This is one of my favorites in the series. When Phuti's furniture store is being undercut by a big retailer, he's ready to throw in the towel. But Precious and Grace have other plans. The women put their heads together to learn how the opposition is managing to get their information and come up with an ingenious plan to thwart it. On another front, a childhood friend from Grace's past has come to town and is having a terrible time with her 14 year old son, who does not like his mother's new boyfriend. Great entry into the series!

Uncovering a Fraud and Charlie's in Love
Revisado: 05-28-24
I don't know how the author does it, but this series continues to be as good as it was in the beginning. In this one, the 20th in the series, Precious is charged with helping an old friend who is concerned for her daughter and her obsession with a charismatic preacher. Precious hates confrontations, but for a woman who doesn't like facing things head-on, she always manages to dig out the truth and deliver it in the best way possible. Charlie, who works for Mr. J.L.B. Matekoni has finally sworn off his womanizing ways and is in love with Queenie-Queenie. Charlie is not a rich man and cannot possibly pay the bride price to her father. Hearing about a way that Queen-Queenie's brother might be able to help him, Charlie considers his options. Fabulous entry into the series. Don't miss it.

Listening to this series is like a good conversation with your best friend. The ladies are on the hunt for answers regarding in a puzzling case involving a young man who is to inherit a farm from his uncle. And another case where a beauty salon is being sabotaged. The way they ponder each case and eventually untangle the clues is ingenious. Great listen!

Alexander McCall Smith’s internationally best-selling and award-winning series starring Botswana’s leading lady detective continues with this 11th charming tale. Mma Ramotswe and Mma Makutsi travel to the Okavango Delta to visit a safari lodge beset by unexplained events. There they are awestruck by the breathtaking scenery, but also troubled by the region’s many difficulties—not the least of which is the occasional grumpy hippopotamus.

Gift to a Safari Guide
Revisado: 05-16-24
As usual, this series continues to amaze. I love the tales of the cattle and the way of life in Botswana. In this one, the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency takes on the task of finding a specific guide who served a deceased American woman in years past. A seemingly unsurmountable task, the two ladies go on the search. The gentle tale is a pleasure to listen to and the way in which they solve the case is brilliant.

Southern Tale of Grit and Grace
Revisado: 05-06-24
I learned a lot about underground mining in Bad Ground. It was the perfect backdrop for the story of a teenage boy (Jeremy) who has lost his mother to cancer and then goes off in search of his Uncle Aiden. Confronted with a man who is known as Snake at the job site, Jeremy has no idea how to crack the hard veneer of his uncle. Yet Jeremy holds fast to his faith in God among some of the worst skeptics. Working along side his uncle, doing the same work which killed his father, Jeremy learns to toughen up and become a man. But the lessons are flowing both ways in this hard hitting tale. Don't miss it.
