Historia
This new volume in the Bodies from the Library series features the work of 16 prolific authors who, like Christie and Crofts, saw their popularity soar during the golden age. Aside from novels, they all wrote short fiction - stories, serials and plays - and although most of them have been collected in books over the last 100 years, here are the ones that got away.

Loved the stories and the great narration of gifted actor Philip Bretherton! Somehow, book 4 of this series isn’t available on Audible. Would love to see that added! :)

Churchill was one of the top ten greatest leaders of all time. He loved people and his country. This carefully researched book does him justice, quoting his wonderful statements and rightly assessing his great heart. Trust this author to tell you what actually happened in the past!

The Freedom of the Christian

Historia
The Freedom of the Christian was Martin Luther's first public defense of the doctrine of justification by grace through faith on account of Christ alone. Luther's explosive rediscovery of the Gospel of Jesus Christ shattered the Church of Rome's foundation of works, which considered good works a part of salvation instead of a result of it. Here, Luther constructed a rich theology that relies on the full power of the Gospel, which not only grants saving faith but also nurtures that faith through good works done in the freest service.

Thanks to 1517 Publishing for making this famous work available! The Protestant Reformation made possible sweeping reforms - freedom of religion, greater political agency, availability of primary education, and knowledge became available in common languages rather than Latin. In demonstrating that people had the right to manage their own relationship with God, Luther helped people find the ability to be individuals in every area of life. A great reaffirmation of “the just shall live by faith” rather than by church rules!

Historia
It is said that books are written to bring sunshine into our dull, grey lives—to show us places we want to escape to, lives we want to live, people we want to love. But there are also stories that can only be found in the deepest, darkest corners of the library. Stories about the unexplained, of lost souls, of things that go bump before the silence. Before the screaming. And some stories just disappear. Stories printed in old newspapers, broadcast live on the wireless, sometimes not even published at all—these are the stories you cannot find on even the dustiest of library shelves.

Love Philip Bretherton narration. He was phenomenal as Alister in As Time Goes By. The stories are little known tales by old masters and are very entertaining!

Historia
At a costume party with the dubious theme of 'famous murderers and their victims', the know-it-all amateur criminologist Roger Sheringham is settled in for an evening of beer, small talk and analysing his companions. One guest in particular has caught his attention for her theatrics, and his theory that she might have several enemies among the partygoers proves true when she is found hanging from the 'decorative' gallows on the roof terrace. Noticing a key detail which could implicate a friend in the crime, Sheringham decides to meddle with the scene.

Historia
When the San Angelo drifts into port in the Thames Estuary, telephones begin to ring across the capital and an intricate series of events is set in motion. Beset by dreadful storms in the Bay of Biscay, the ship, along with the 'mixed cargo' it carries, is late. Unaware of the machinations of avaricious importers, wayward captains and unscrupulous traders, Harry Reed and June Harvey are thrust together by a riverside accident, before being swept into the current of a dark plot developing on the dockside.

Historia
Ever wondered if there were more writings from the first few centuries by Christians? Well the answer is - yes! There is much that the early Christians left us and they are available in this day and time. The New Testament is our rock to stand upon, but there are other works that we can glean from that are filled with godly wisdom and virtue. The 1st Epistle of Clement to the Corinthians is just that kind of work that can further your walk with Christ in this present day.

A 2000 year old Bible study
Revisado: 07-13-22
This book is not part of the Bible, but was written not long afterward. Clement was grounded in Scripture and included passages in this book. The things that were important to him and his readers are the same things that Christians find important today.

Historia
Passion and intrigue among the upper classes form the basis of Lady Windermere's Fan, Oscar Wilde's first successful play, which displays his trademark wit and wisdom. Beautiful and innocent Lady Windermere finds out that her husband has been keeping company with the scandalous and mysterious Mrs. Erlynne. Her discovery unleashes a host of tensions at her 21st birthday party, where London's elite have gathered to gossip.

Great listen
Revisado: 06-25-22
Although written by the same author as The Importance of Being Ernest, this play is a drama rather than a comedy. However, Wilde uses witty dialogue and everything turns out right in the end, despite mistakes the characters make about each other. I recommend the 2014 film Lady Windermere’s Fan, available for rent of $1.99 on Amazon Prime.

He's the butt of political jokes, frequently subjected to ridicule, and almost never absent a "Worst Presidents" list where he most often ends up at the bottom. Historians have labeled him the "Worst President Ever," "Dead Last," "Unfit," and "Incompetent," to name but a few. Many contemporaries were equally cruel. H. L. Mencken called him a "nitwit." To Alice Roosevelt Longworth, he was a "slob."

Brave, daring, a must read!
Revisado: 06-05-22
The author’s re-examination of Harding was a needed project. He bravely took on years of scholarly consensus on the president and found that Harding did some praiseworthy work. He created an economic boost in a time of near depression, worked to keep the US out of foreign entanglements, aided African Americans and Native Americans, and passed shorter workday legislation. The most impressive thing about the book was the author’s very accurate declaration that academia is one sided, praising all presidents of their political party and vilifying all those of the party they dislike.

In order to understand history, listen to the words of the people who lived it. Nixon tells his own story, explaining his controversial decisions and providing interesting insights into his personal thoughts and life. I would also listen to an unabridged recording of In the Arena if Audible were to offer one, although I enjoyed this one as Nixon read it aloud himself.
