Historia
Gates Foster lost his daughter, Lucy, 17 years ago. He's never stopped searching. Suddenly, a shocking new development provides Foster with his first major lead in over a decade, and he may finally be on the verge of discovering the awful truth. Meanwhile, Mitzi Ives has carved out a space among the Foley artists creating the immersive sounds giving Hollywood films their authenticity. Using the same secret techniques as her father before her, she's become an industry-leading expert in the sound of violence and horror, creating screams so bone-chilling, they may as well be real.

I just wasn’t really prepared for the visceral nature of the piece. It was too much for me.

Historia
As Lawrence Ingrassia shows in this timely and eye-opening audiobook, a growing number of digital entrepreneurs have found new and creative ways to crack the code on the bonanza of physical goods that move through our lives every day. They have discovered that manufacturing, marketing, logistics, and customer service have all been flattened - where there were once walls that protected big brands like Gillette, Sealy, Victoria’s Secret, or Lenscrafters, savvy and hungry innovators now can compete on price, value, quality, speed, convenience, and service.

100% Atwood but early
Revisado: 04-23-24
Atwood remarks in the foreword that she hadn’t published this early work when it was written and decided to later. I adore Atwood but this one never really went anywhere. It was a slice of life but not really equal to her other work.

Not a stand alone book
Revisado: 08-13-21
I selected this book without knowing that it was part of a trilogy. However, the story just stops and never really went anywhere. Thinking planned series, each Harry Potter book can pretty much stand on its own, this one cannot. So disappointed, I didn’t even bother returning the title because I wanted to make sure this review stayed up. Either buy all three or none at all.

Veteran science journalist Leonard David explores the moon in all its facets, from ancient myth to future "Moon Village" plans. David offers inside information about how the United States, allies, and competitors, as well as key private corporations like Moon Express and Jeff Bezos's Blue Origin, plan to reach, inhabit, and even harvest the moon in the decades to come. Spurred on by the Google Lunar XPRIZE - $30 million for the first to get to the moon and send images home - the 21st-century space race back to the moon has become more urgent, and more timely, than ever.

A little thin
Revisado: 01-30-21
Details were given but it was a little thin in places. Commentary comes from a place that’s a little dated too. Opening chapters included guidelines for a new global space capital in Houston, including all countries “even China.” Yes, that’s what global means.

Disappointing as a sequel, disappointing as a stand alone
Revisado: 01-16-21
I know that sequels are often panned by super fans who have created the original to be greater than it was and something no follow-up could ever equal.
That’s not what this is.
This book was a victim of being poorly constructed and terribly obvious. Everything the characters would need were available and if not first laid out elsewhere, they were magically available. Somehow, a contest that left gamers at square one for several years is solved in 13 hours. All the destruction and mayhem is solved at the end in a nice, tidy, bow.
I finished it mostly because the narrator, Wil Wheaton, is awesome and did a great job with this young adult, fanfic, bastardization of a great work.

Extreme success, by definition, lies beyond the realm of normal action. If you want to achieve extreme success, you can’t operate like everybody else and settle for mediocrity. You need to remove luck and chance from your business equation, and lock in massive success. The 10X Rule shows you how!

Terrible, cursory, garbage.
Revisado: 08-11-16
I've read good business books and bad business books. This one is a bad book. Devoid of fact or corroboration, this brash and forgettable book seems to believe that simply by measuring the word "success" it will express the author's method for becoming successful. It does not. It's like a very loud and stupid person explaining how to work a toaster to you, and as successful as they might be, you're better to just walk away than reduce your intelligence by this shouting idiot.

Full of unforgettable figures and an unrelenting spirit of adventure, Strange Stones is a far-ranging, thought-provoking collection of Peter Hessler’s best reportage - a dazzling display of the powerful storytelling, shrewd cultural insight, and warm sense of humor that are the trademarks of his work. Over the last decade, as a staff writer for The New Yorker and the author of three books, Peter Hessler has lived in Asia and the United States, writing as both native and knowledgeable outsider in these two very different regions.
