Historia
At 19 years old, college student Josie Stratton was kidnapped by a madman and held shackled for 10 months in an abandoned warehouse before she finally escaped her hellish prison. Eight years later, when the body of a young woman is found chained in the basement of a vacant house, Cincinnati Police Detective Zach Copeland is instantly reminded of the crime committed against Josie Stratton. Zach was just a rookie on the perimeter of that case, but he's never forgotten the traumatized woman with the haunted eyes.

Selfish and unlikable FMC
Revisado: 01-06-25
Josie's journey through some truly horrific events was incredibly difficult to read. It was so intense that I had to pause a few times, but even with all the trauma, it was hard to feel much sympathy for her. Despite everyone around her bending over backwards to help, she came off as incredibly selfish, self serving and thoughtless…everything was always about her. She only reached out to others only when she needed something, and it became really frustrating. Almost 9 years later… I don’t know, like still?
When her friend goes missing, Josie doesn’t come close to showing the same level of commitment her friend had for her. She seems to just go on with her life, experiencing small moments of pain as if it were a stranger or like she was watching a show or maybe reading but not her “best friend.”She didn’t even take basic actions like posting a flyer for her missing friend, which was so disappointing. It was all about Josie her, her, her…and it felt like her “care” was entirely performative.
The impulsive actions she takes throughout the book are maddening. She acts without thinking, and her constant apologies don’t feel sincere. I was actually starting to like Zach at first, but then he seemed to just excuse Josie's behavior because of her looks, which was frustrating.
As for the whole lamenting, and all the things the inner monologues attempted to lie to us like we forgot how it happened…the “crying for each other” thing honestly, was another layer of her selfishness and inability to see beyond herself. Josie literally said she wanted to let him go for his own good, which made no sense considering what was happening. Smart even through her pleas… I can’t give out too much here… but I can’t stand when characters lie about events that were shared already like what did we forget? 😩 okay, now this is playing out as stream of consciousness or something…
Anyway, back to Josie, At times, her behavior felt so out of place, and it was hard to chalk it up to anything other than her selfishness. She wasn’t a good person before or after everything went down, and her actions in the new life did not help her any…
By the end, at least she did something right, even though the letter she wrote felt a bit self-righteous and didn’t provide much clarity. For a moment, I honestly wondered if she was going to be this awful the whole way through, but thankfully, she did manage to redeem herself with one action that was for someone else… I hope if she shows up in the next book her friend, Reagan, moves on with her life and forgets about Josie and the neighbor stays on her side of the fence so to speak…
Do I recommend? Not really… I’ve read books where characters did not go through half of this but you felt and connect… Josie was a bad soul to begin with so…
(Some people enjoyed the story I suppose)

Cringe
Revisado: 01-04-25
I sort of regret starting this… Holland’s character IS so freakishly entitled, manipulative, take advantage selfish brat…
I don’t buy for one second she loved Scott…there’s no way. I think he was convenient and good enough to elope with and the lust she’s feeling for Maguire was also manipulative… it didn’t feel genuine even if Maguire sort of lusted and maybe has his “love” misguided because he let her lead him on a leash 😫 awful to read… and the “banter?” Just came off as AHole mean girl really… it was NOT cute! Not even a little bit! The needing to be convinced? So stupid… she just took advantage of everyone around her…
The I’m going to rescue you when a woman hits on you but “I have to date other people” 🙄 THEN she’s besties with HIS friends!!! Make it make sense… so freakin entitled… I just wish this trope moved away from what it was trying to force… totally gave me the ick…
I really should have DNF’d but I hate doing it in the beginning of the year…it was painful and the trying to save it at the end but it was cringe 😫

There are rules to being Abigail Crowne's bodyguard, rules to watching the infamous billion-dollar heiress, otherwise known as the Reject Princess. Never forget your place, always put the Crowne name above all else, and never, ever hurt the Reject. Especially don't torment the Reject. Even if she is a spoiled brat. So when an opportunity presents itself to punish her, you definitely shouldn't take it. Then again, Abigail loves to be tortured, and I've waited patiently for revenge. I'll keep her safe...with cruel protection.

Typical poor little rich girl saga where she sought attention and treated the main character like a dog… down to calling him “animal” 🙄 and because of his f*€d up past he was okay? With it…
It was long for whatever reason because it did not make sense…
I just didn’t like the secret rich and I would have probably given it another star had the ending been “normal.” 🙄

Justin and Toni were friends. Besties, with a whole list of life rules developed over a friendship that started when they were kids. As long as they stuck to the rules, even when they blended a business relationship into the friendship, things went off without a hitch. But then one of them broke the rules - it was Justin. Justin broke the rules - and Toni has been mad about it ever since.

This was a pleasant surprise!!
Revisado: 12-30-24
If you’re still on the fence about this book, let me convince you to give it a go. It’s about Toni and Justin, and I absolutely loved it. The story feels surprisingly realistic, even though the FMC does a few eye-roll-worthy things towards the end—nothing nearly as extreme as some of the other books I’ve been reading lately, though, so it’s still totally enjoyable.
Toni’s a small publisher, and Justin’s an author. They’ve been friends since they were kids, but life happened, and they did not speak for seven years. When they reconnect, there’s a lot more than just rekindling a friendship at stake, it’s a bit of a balancing act with their relationship too. And Justin, by the way, is a single dad (I know, I know, I’m usually not a fan of the single parent trope either but trust me, this one’s done beautifully. The other parent isn’t absent or villainized or dead and that made all the difference.)
What really stood out for me was how the side characters brought so much fun and humor to the story. Every little detail came together to create a really sexy, entertaining read. Don’t skip this one—I’m telling you, it’s totally worth it!
PS
It’s not super spicy but still an enjoyable read

Historia
My whole life I've been the good guy—loyal friend, helpful son, dedicated firefighter—but in the bedroom I'm someone else. With a kink as taboo as mine, it's too risky to play with anyone who doesn't crave it like I do, so I've gotten used to depriving that side of me. Then I see her. She's the most beautiful creature I've ever seen and my darker half recognizes itself in her brown eyes. She's everything I could ever want and thought I would never find. Our arrangement may seem twisted to everyone else, but the sex is explosive—and soon my soul demands every part of her.

It started great… and the end fell flat…
Revisado: 12-28-24
I loved this story until the miscommunication or the “conflict” 🙄 The FMC was dumb… I mean if everyone hears what he hears what was he supposed to do? She would have done he same… I can’t deal with characters like this… at least her true self came at the end… and the “don’t tell him where I am” to the friends she found him with… I mean, she needed to make her own friends before she could claim that… and also she doesn’t know the meaning of “bad ass” 🙄 I could go on and on but she’s still better than most of the recent ones I’ve read… ugh
I enjoyed Austin’s character, what a great person inside buuuut him falling for someone like her… I mean not the worst but still, this?!?! The falling for the face is getting old…
Cute story though… sigh

He's everything I don't want. A playboy. A beast with a cunningly gorgeous smile. Faces like his only mean one thing. Somewhere underneath all of that handsomeness, there lies a monster. And if anyone can sense a monster, it's me. I understand cruelty. I've lived and breathed it my entire life. I existed on the "charity" of others until I realized that it wouldn't be enough. My demons would soon be set free. They were coming back for me, and to be ready, I needed to make myself invincible. If I'm going to survive, then I need to make an alliance with a monster of my own: Abel Frazier.

Better than Stone Cold Queen 🙄 I couldn’t take Avalon’s story so I thought I’d jump to Riley’s and she was also disappointing… I just can’t take this type of FMC. I wish some were made to be honest tat they like the guys for their money… they do everything short of admitting that… like this one wanted Riley because he was rich there’s no if or buts… she wasn’t attracted to him, there was no chemistry all she did was “hate” him then I’m supposed to believe that she liked him when he was “balls deep?” 🙄 and even when they were in the sexy times she had these full on inner monologues… I’m just saying if that’s happening and there’s time to think that much? It wasn’t good…
I really expected Riley’s story to. E better… she’s gone through a ton but ugh… I really thought she was going to be better..
The MMC, Abel? He was nice at first but then I ran into what I’ve seen in some series, the guy is basically the same with different names and some different characteristics and in spicy times? They basically do the same things, the same way… not much variation ☹️
I think more than anything I was just disappointed….

I used to fantasize about meeting a masked madman who would love me endlessly and obsessively. He would look after me in a world where no one else did. He would manipulate all the strings that held up my life until I had exactly the one I wanted. And then one night, I met him. Only he wasn't the hero I always imagined he would be. When we left the forest together that night, I thought I'd escaped the villains relatively unscathed, but my true villain was the man whose arms I felt safest in.

I’m disappointed…
Revisado: 12-21-24
I couldn’t stand Brynn… and Killian is so DUMB!!! To share all that information, important information to a girl he just met? 🙄 seriously? It would made more sense after a semester or something… and Brynn can’t keep her mouth shut for anything… letting her “beauty” work for her was so pathetic… I wish it was a different story line… the obsession with the secret society was ridiculous… she’s talking up Aiden(?) and they could have gotten to “know each other” the conversations seem so empty, didn’t get the “attraction” it was more of convenience and “she’s pretty enough” kind of deal and he had enough money to have her be okay with staying there pretending surprise about all the wealth 🙄 I couldn’t stand her trying to try and adopt the dog when she knew she could hardly afford to even keep herself together and trying to make jealous when they were not even “together” yet?
I can’t stand when the character is supposedly ridiculously beautiful and extremely smart but then no evidence of the said intelligence… every single action is filled with idiotic inner monologues and stupid actions… no sign of intelligence anywhere….this grinds my gears I’m like was it necessary? We didn’t need to know the actual major… so, goes without saying that I hated that they focused on STEM major but she hardly studied… Killian seemed to study more than her… I wish she was studying a humanities major or something… it just felt like just major to impress… because who says “chatter excitedly about space stuff” no one in STEM I can tell you that….I don’t know… I haven’t read a ton of Sam Mariano’s books and loved almost all of them but this one is tough to get through only chapter 19 in and I think there’s 51. I wish there was more his POV because her POV irritated me to no end…the inability to think, constantly leaving her head how is Killian thinking she’s anywhere near strong? Like the holier than thou behavior she has was ridiculous… the repetitions? she’s always scared and she “doesn’t say anything” then she tells her roommate? She’s not a good friend, even individually a good person…oh let’s not forget how so freakin childish and for someone who’s not her boyfriend she needed a lot of reassurance and it was weird AF! And the stupid lies, she’s in a sorority? Like it’s not hard to find out she’s not one 🙄 (scientist don’t do this, they’re more analytical and have independent thinking Brynn is not. I would have respected her more if she was undecided for a major… I don’t know why I’m irrationally irritated by her “biology” major and she’s falling over herself being stupid and her main thing is trying to fit in a sorority… never heard of biology major or anyone in STEM really caring that much about clothes and belonging to vain sorority especially with her reasoning to why she joined the college) the deer in a headlights look every chapter was not cute at all! And the whining!!! Oh the whining!!! The complaints…. she wants the rich guy, so obvious! 🙄 the pretending was so obvious it was annoying…
oh and She doesn’t want anything going to her roommate but lies that she’s going there…? Seriously? Like she’s not connecting anything… they’re both dumb! There’s no connection just two people thrown together really…
I really Needed to hear Teddy Hamilton more…just can’t imagine having Teddy Hamilton and he’s not narrating more… the horror!’ Clutched my invisible pearls…
