'The Listener', and 'The Gifted' are very good stories for Christian readers to consider. How would things change if Christians were tuned in to the needs around us? What if we use the gifts that God has given us to help them. Not that it will happen in the same "miraculous" way that these stories picture it, but what if we use all that God has given us to reach those around us.

I appreciate a clear & distinctive reading of the Bible in the voice of the well know "Poirot" actor, David Suchet. Though I am an American, the British accent and some different pronunciations were not a distraction but helped maintain interest. I also respect his desire as a Christian to use his talents to share God's distinctive message, the Holy Bible, as a legacy.

Turgenyev examines not only the way that Russia was being transformed by liberal social reforms and the extremes of anarchist philosophy -- but also how relationships between fathers and sons are especially strained during turbulent times. The polarization of political philosophy is in conflict with familial love and the traditional values of faith. Which will prevail?

Story is the first in a series that follows Joe Pickett, an honest game warden trying to do the right thing being caught in up in a web of corruption. Joe is a family man with two daughters and another child on the way. What could be a wholesome story is soured by some bad language - especially blasphemous misuse of Jesus' name. There are also a couple 'adult' situations described, and an unbelievable caricature of a redneck funeral. In the end, Joe triumphs by shooting and/or arresting the main villains. The book does critique the environmental protection system as at times a bit of a train wreck.

Picks up where the Kremlin Conspiracy left off, with good character development and compelling action. It does seem less rooted in specific historical events, though it fits the geopolitical milleu in general.

How far can - and should - Christians go in extending grace to the LGBTQ community? And can we do this without compromising biblical truth? We may not all come to the same conclusion. Grace can get messy.

Ned Sankey and the Luddites

Revisado: 12-05-21

This story takes place against the backdrop of civil unrest against mechanization of the textile industry in English (1811-1817).

The Luddites were a secret oath-bound group of textile workers, a radical faction which destroyed textile machinery. They protested against manufacturers who used automated machines, fearing that their craft and income would be lost, as machines replaced their role in the industry.

The main character Ned Sankey is given a character flaw in the form of a violent temper which is sorely tested when he stands accused of his step-father's murder. He is aquitted at trial, but must live under a shadow, until his name is cleared by a Luddite leader'd death-bed confession.

The other characters are also more developed than in some of Henty's stories, but the happy ending is typically stereotypical.

Revisado: 11-19-21

Robin Hood makes a cameo appearance in this tale of young Cuthbert who accompanies his Earl as a page on the 3rd Crusade with King Richard the Lionhearted. After the death of his Earl and his own extraordinary service, he is knighted by the King and named as the next Earl of Eavesham.

Meanwhile, Prince John unsuccessfully attempts a rebellion against the royal administrators of King Richard at home. John has installed one of his partisans as the new Earl and threatens the supporters of Richard.

The Crusade is not ultimately successful, but does better than the previous attempts. On his return home, the fleet is scattered, and Richard is captured and held for ransom by the Holy Roman Emperor. Sir Cuthbert escapes his own dangers, locates the imprisoned king, and works to aid his release.

On return to England, John surrenders to his brother Richard. Sir Cuthbert is installed as rightful Earl of Eavesham and awarded his chosen bride, Margaret, the daughter of the late Earl.
