Historia
Collin Creed is a killer. But he"s Lowyn"s killer. And after a twelve-year separation, she wants him back. Deep in the hills of West Virginia, three small towns have found a way to flourish in the face of extreme poverty. Disciple runs a side-show tent revival that brings in millions of dollars a year. Bishop flaunts traditional ways in the vein of Colonial Williamsburg, luring weary city people to the slow-living lifestyle. And Revenant offers them an experience of sin filled with tattooed bikers and live-music dive bars.

I wanted to love it!
Revisado: 11-05-24
I want to start by saying that I"m a huge J.A. Huss fan. She"s a FANTASTIC writer. I find myself anxiously awaiting each new release. I greatly appreciate the fact that she releases both the ebook & the audiobook at the same time, because these days I just don"t have the time I wish I had, to sit & "read" a book. So aidiobooks are my primary. I have to admit to being an audiobook snob though. When I rushed to buy this first in the trilogy, I didn"t even listen to the sample! That"s how confident I was in Huss" narration choices. I actually really enjoy these narrators in other audiobooks. But this book is set in BFE West Virginia. It"s mentioned again & again. The WV accent/drawl is brought up repeatedly. And yet there"s barely a hint of accent. I have property & family in WV. I spend considerable time there. This narration misses the mark by a huge margin. If I were listening to a book set in Australia, I would expect an australian accent. If you don"t know better, maybe it won"t bother you. When I read the description & saw the setting was WV, I was so excited! Maybe that played a part in my level of disappointment in the audiobook version. It was like nails on a chalkboard for me. I couldn"t finish. I got the ebook to finish out the story. I loved the story! I"m hoping that enough people let her know that the audiobook is missing the required twang... that the problem gets resolved in the subsequent books. So while I highly recommend the book... I would skip the audiobook & read it instead. Or at least listen to the sample so you know what you"re getting & can make an informed decision.

Three years ago, sports agent Myron Bolitar gave a eulogy at the funeral of his client, renowned basketball coach Greg Downing. Myron and Greg had history: initially as deeply personal rivals, and later as unexpected business associates. Myron made peace and moved on–until now, when two federal agents walked into his office, demanding to know where Greg Downing is.

Somehow I missed the memo that Coban was releasing another Myron Bolitar book. So when I was looking for a new listen a couple of days ago & "Think Twice" popped up as a recommendation for me, I first thought it was a new Harlan Coban standalone. I was very excited, because he"s one of my favorite authors. But when I realized it was a Myron Bolitar... I literally squealed! This book did NOT disappoint. What a fantastic read/listen. I don"t often get emotional while reading a book, but I found myself gasping out loud, yelling "No!" , plotting a "Misery" sequel starring HC, then trying to hold back a sob at the end... because of the story & because the reunion with my book friends was coming to a close. There really should be a support group for Myron Bolitar fans... just saying ;)

Duet Narration... need I say more?
Revisado: 01-18-24
First of all, I would like to say that this is one of very few audiobooks in this genre that is narrated in duet. & it isn"t cringeworthy over the top. The male narrator saves the whole thing. This guy"s got the goods! There were only a very few over "acted" moments for him. Mostly he comes off very smooth without the often found "dramatic" MMC you find in most PNR narration. The female narrator... to be honest, I read (ebook) the portions that were heavily narrated by her. I like her sound. I feel like there"s very real potential for her. But in this book, it just wasn"t a smooth consistent narration. & she definitely over "acts". I really really feel like she has great potential though! I didn"t look into it... maybe she"s just new & will settle in. I enjoyed the story. Not my usual thing, but I liked it enough to get the next in series. Honestly that"s probably due to the male narrator.

Historia
Photographer Isla Wilson is thrilled she"s landed her dream job, but the clients who hired her are getting stranger by the day. It sounded so perfect—a month"s assignment at the lush Scottish Highlands property of architect Alban McGregor, and his wife, Jessica. But in the woods, there"s a playhouse with a chilling history. Two years ago, the McGregors" daughter Elodie was abducted and then died in that playhouse. The townspeople insist her abductor had to be a stranger in their town. Alban refuses to knock the playhouse down, even keeping a picture of it on his wall.

Coupla Things...
Revisado: 09-15-23
I don"t mind an author who writes a character with opinions that differ from mine. I want characters of all kinds. I don"t agree with all the political opinions, & I don"t disagree with all of them either. I don"t want to be beaten over the head with political opinions when I"m reading a book for entertainment. I want to get immersed in a story. I do feel that the shade being thrown Trumps way by several characters heavy, but I don"t feel that it was gratuitous. King writes characters that are racist, sexist, homophobic, cannibals, rapists, psychotic, serial killers etc. & readers are onboard with those characters & their ingnorant/twisted/psycho personalities & opinions being germane to those stories... But characters expressing very strong opinions about Trump & covid in a story that is set in 2020 ish are causing people to lose their minds?! How could a story, set in that time, be remotely conceivable if fanatical opinions on Trump, masks, vaccines WEREN"T part of the story? We"re you living under a rock during that time? Aaaaaanyway the only problem for me, is the narrator. She"s a really good narrator, just not the right voice for this series, in my opinion. Will Patton was perfection! I normally prefer Duet Narration, but Will Patton"s performance was flawless in The Bill Hodges trilogy. Why oh why not have him narrate this book. I just can"t get into this audiobook, so I purchased the Kindle version & just read the book with Will Patton"s voice in my head. The book is 4.5 stars all the way. This narrator for THIS book, just didn"t make the cut for me.

Whyyyyyyyyy?!?
Revisado: 08-27-23
Sorry, but where was the Alabama accent?! I mean... come on! Would you have someone use a strong southern accent to narrate a book that was set in New York, with characters who were supposed to be born & raised there? That"s how ridiculous this audiobook sounded. I really tried to get past it, but it was impossible. I ended up reading the ebook. The book/story was very good. The narrator is a really good narrator of books NOT requiring a southern accent. But this pairing of book & narrator was terrible! Skip the audiobook & just read it, Unfortunately the next book in series, uses the same narrator. Lord knows when I"ll have time to sit & read it. Such a shame. I wish more authors/publishers understood how important the narrator choice is. Not everyone has the time to "read" as much as we would like :(

UNICORN Narration! IYKYK
Revisado: 08-13-23
●●● Possible Spoiler Alert ●●●
If you"ve stumbled upon this audiobook, you have found one of the rare mythical unicorns in audiobooks. It is a FULL CAST NARRATION 🦄 ! Not to be confused with Audio Dramas or Dramatized Audiobooks that have the oddly distracting sound effects (distracting to me, anyway). Not only is this book a Full Cast Narration, but the individual narrators are INCREDIBLE! If Tara doesn"t win an Audie for this phenomenal performance, then it will be a true tragedy. The entire recording & performances were utterly seamless. Then there"s the story itself... Geissinger gifts us with yet another GEM of a story. I love that the MMC uses a tired romance trope as a means to trick the FMC to hide the actual romance trope. Clever, as always ;) But the ninja level snark & banter had me LMAO! If you are an audiaficionado, like me... Click "buy" immediately! You"re welcome 😊

3rd time reading... like revisiting old friends 💕
Revisado: 03-01-23
This book was released in 2003. I was already a Dean Koontz fan, so I bought the hard cover right away. I was sucked into this story immediately. When my library got the audiobook in, a few years later on cassette tapes, I borrowed it & relived the experience. Later when I joined Audible, I listened again. One of my sons recently decided to give audiobooks a try (a lifelong learning disability prevents him from enjoying "reading" traditional books), so I borrowed the CD version from the library for him. I re listened via Audible, along with him. It was really cool to share the experience again with my son & we had some great conversations over it. My son loved Odd Thomas as much as I do, & we"re going to do the same with the rest of the series. If you"re new to Dean Koontz, you"ll find that his work is truly timeless. this was my 3rd go round in 2 decades & it still hits hard!

I have been enjoying this series for years now. Narration is fantastic as always. How Rubinstein manages to narrate Alex & Milo to sound so much like 2 different people, without a single glitch in their conversations is beyond me. If you"re new to this series... start at the beginning. You won"t regret it :)

It"s been three long years since Deadbreak. That"s what everyone"s calling it - the day the dead rose. Every day since then, Jeremiah Reid has had one goal: to make his way back to his daughter. With his four-legged companion, Joe, Jeremiah has to travel a lawless wasteland teeming with zombies, bandits, and worse, like people who put anchovies on pizza (you know who you are). It"s a new world out there, and no one is safe. People are weary, cities are in ruin, supplies are scarce, and brains are on the menu.

Hard to review this one...
Revisado: 01-28-23
So I really liked this story. I LOVED the narration. Spot on! But I couldn"t help feeling like something was missing. I highly recommend, regardless. After some thought, I feel like what was missing, was intimacy between the main characters. I"m not saying the author should have thrown in gratuitous word porn. But it almost felt like intimacy of any kind was being intentionally left out/ avoided, & I"m not sure why. Until the very end, I couldn’t tell if they were platonic besties or what their relationship actually was. It was hard to believe that they were so close, but there was no mention or even implication, that they cuddled, held each other in the dark, or even shared a bed... let alone had sex. It just would have been more authentic to include some level of intimacy. Anyway, that"s just my humble opinion. Like I said... I still enjoyed & still recommend.
