Historia
Every day without fail, Travis Devine puts on a cheap suit, grabs his faux-leather briefcase, and boards the 6:20 commuter train to Manhattan, where he works as an entry-level analyst at the city’s most prestigious investment firm. In the mornings, he gazes out the train window at the lavish homes of the uberwealthy, dreaming about joining their ranks. In the evenings, he listens to the fiscal news on his phone, already preparing for the next grueling day in the cutthroat realm of finance. Then one morning Devine’s tedious routine is shattered by an anonymous email: She is dead.

Historia
In 2014, Theranos founder and CEO Elizabeth Holmes was widely seen as the next Steve Jobs: a brilliant Stanford dropout whose startup “unicorn” promised to revolutionize the medical industry with its breakthrough device, which performed the whole range of laboratory tests from a single drop of blood. Backed by investors such as Larry Ellison and Tim Draper, Theranos sold shares in a fundraising round that valued the company at more than $9 billion, putting Holmes’s worth at an estimated $4.5 billion.

Fascinating look into a massive scam
Revisado: 04-01-19
I was a big Thoronos supporter and used their services many times here in Phoenix and never had any issues with them. After reading this book I realize I was lucky. This is an extensive, well - researched, and fair expose of their incredible hoax that reached to the very top of the rich and powerful in the world.

Historia
When Marshall McEwan left his hometown at age 18, he vowed never to return. The trauma that drove him away ultimately spurred him to become one of the most successful journalists in Washington DC. But just as the political chaos in the nation’s capital lifts him to new heights, Marshall is forced to return home in spite of his boyhood vow. His father is dying, his mother is struggling to keep the family newspaper from failing, and the town is in the midst of an economic rebirth that might be built upon crimes that reach into the state capitol - and perhaps even to Washington.

Historia
Mark, Todd, and Zola came to law school to change the world, to make it a better place. But now, as third-year students, these close friends realize they have been duped. They all borrowed heavily to attend a third-tier, for-profit law school so mediocre that its graduates rarely pass the bar exam, let alone get good jobs. And when they learn that their school is one of a chain owned by a shady New York hedge-fund operator who also happens to own a bank specializing in student loans, the three know they have been caught up in The Great Law School Scam.

Grisham is back!
Revisado: 01-05-18
I've been pretty disappointed with Grisham's last few books and had almost decided not to read them anymore but I'm glad I gave him one more chance! This book is what I think is classic Grisham, a great story about the little guy fighting corruption in the law in a very unusual way, full of twists and turns and very suspenseful. Great read!!

Historia
We expect our judges to be honest and wise. Their integrity and impartiality are the bedrock of the entire judicial system. We trust them to ensure fair trials, to protect the rights of all litigants, to punish those who do wrong, and to oversee the orderly and efficient flow of justice. But what happens when a judge bends the law or takes a bribe? It’s rare, but it happens. Lacy Stoltz is an investigator for the Florida Board on Judicial Conduct. She is a lawyer, not a cop, and it is her job to respond to complaints dealing with judicial misconduct.

About as disappointing as a book you can read
Revisado: 11-22-16
What disappointed you about The Whistler?
Can't believe Grisham actually wrote this book, it seems like a beginning author's attempt. It was boring and predictable. Very disappointing. And the reader is terrible.
Would you ever listen to anything by John Grisham again?
I doubt it. Last couple have been bombs.
How could the performance have been better?
different reader would have helped some but couldn't save this book.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
boredom

Should be a required read for Business and Finance
Revisado: 03-18-16
Any additional comments?
A non-fiction that reads like an edge-of-your-seat intrigue novel. If you might have some thoughts that Putin is a character to be admired, this book will swiftly destroy those thoughts. He's a thug and a murderer and one realizes after reading this book that our current administration and state department doesn't have the fortitude to stand up to him. A thoroughly disturbing but excellent read.

This is another in a long line of recent get the Muslim terrorists, but with great courtroom drama to go along with it. Well-paced action with everyone's favorite target, politicians.
One can read many comparisons to our current administration in this book and I think it's pretty deliberate but that makes it that much enjoyable! Narrator also does a great job handling many characters with ease.
